Charter is the absolute Worst cable co, or any broadband service I have ever worked with. Just a example, With our BUSINESS (motel), Picture quality is always royal crap. I call, complain, scedule a truck roll for following day. They do a confirmation call 1 hour before the truck rolls out, I check, Picture is crystal clear, So of cource they cancel the truck roll, 4 hours later, it's royal crap again.
This past summer, that has happened 13 times. Cable internet access, we are fairly close to co. pay for 3mbit service, when we're lucky we get 500kbps. -- Do the Do! |

Had Charter when I lived in Riverside,CA.It was a joke.Always going down and you had to pay through the nose for a measly 768k package. They should just get out of the business. |

This kind of thing drives me nuts about this site. I've always enjoyed reading the daily items (though many of the resulting comments are incredibly childish,) but the powers-that-be around here insert so much sarcasm and bias in their "reports" that it ceases to be a legit news service. It's gotten progressively worse through the years.
How 'bout just letting the reader determine his opinion, rather than obviously pushing an agenda? Grow up and keep opinion out of the headlines. Write a comment if you want to express an opinion.
Or just rename the site BroadbandBias.com.

Yes, yes...this site is so much different than say, any other "news" outlet for information. that bias you dismiss is prevalent throughout all reporting, so you might as well dismiss all reporting while you're at it. |

| reply to 53059959 Charter crap cable is the worst company I have ever dealt with. As soon as you get one bogus charge on your bill corrected they have already hit you with another. My bill changes every month. In order to fix it I always have to go to the local office, stand in line and wait for an hour for them to fix their screw up. I wish they would go out of business. People say the grass is not always greener on the other side, but I believe in the case of charter it has to be. Their "package deals" leave a lot to be desired also. Why not just have one constant price? My 12 month package ran out last month and my bill went up almost 60 dollars. I asked if I could go on to another package and she said I had to wait 3 months. I asked her what I could do in the meantime and she replied "Cancel all of your channels down to basic for 3 months". I for one hope charter communications dies the death it deserves... |

| I didnt realize how good we had it
Over here we have Verizon DSL, RCN AND Time Warner Cable. Time Warner is spending bucks on upgrading the plant yet again as they are doing work in the area. RCN has great fiber infrastructure including FTTB here but they are falling behind fast including reducing broadband speeds for new customers and by implementing throttling of bandwidth as evidenced by bittorrent users.
I wish I had it as good as Long Island however which has Cablevision vs FIOS. But in time Im sure things will get better. |

RCN isnt rolling out anything new for the most part. They are cutting back and trying to upsell customers. They even cut speeds for new customers and are now throttling upload bandwidth, dont know if its limited to bittorrent or is more widespread. They only rolled out a few sports channels or soemthing which kind of differentiated themselves from the incumbent cable co.
Time Warner on the other hand has consistently added VOD programming and will likely increase broadband speeds and they are now upgrading the system around here further since they are doing TONS of work in the area on the physical plant. As to what those upgrades are I do not know.
And Verizon DSL is sold out right now. For customers who did get it, you could have gotten up to 3MBPS or a very cheap 768k package for $14.95. |

There are a lot of good techs that work for Charter, but the vision, nor the cash is there to make next gen truly become a reality. Charter has been and will be for the forseeable future a second-rate cable company. The stock is worth less than the paper it is printed on. Where are they going to get teh money to deploy next gen solutions? |

| Charter...stick with the devil you know
There are only two real broadband options in my area, Verizon's DSL (3mbit/768 for $38+landline phone charge) or Charter's 2mbit/256k for about $48, includes basic cabletv.
I'm about a mile from Verizon's office so I doubt I would get their max advertised speed. I also avoid them since my friend signed up with them for the 3mbit offer and after two months of service throttled him to 768/128 for the same price, though they denied that he was getting less speed. I did frequent tests at this site and others and it's undeniable that he was being throttled.
I've had Charter's 2mbit/256 for about 2 years and I get about 90% of the advertised speed and it hasn't went down at all. Yeah, they may suck (rude and slow customer service) but they seem to be slightly less evil than Verizon and reliable enough for me not to switch.
Still, my brother lives just over the line in Comcast territory and he gets 5mit cable internet for about the same price as me, and I certainly wouldn't mind having that speed. Maybe they'll get bought out. Of course, the risk is that the buyer is even worse than Charter. Oh well. |

| Broadband Ok, TV was terrible...
I can't really complain about my cable internet here in CT. My downtime is next to none(I can't remember the last time the internet was down for me, it's been many months) although I hate the fact that I can no longer talk with my LOCAL charter office, when I have an issue. I can only talk with some national line that hasn't a clue about my area.
TV, well that's another story. They were terrible, for the short time I had them(about 4 months) until I finally went to Directv. The picture quality was horrible and their rates weren't very good either. From the looks of it, they still are pretty bad. They STILL don't have all the local channels up in HD yet, which, in this day and age, is mind boggling. My guess is because they have always been penny pinchers when it came to shelling out the fees. They dropped FX for years because of that and I suspect that is why they still don't have the HD feeds of all the locals yet either.
They dug their own grave with me(and many others I assume), year back, now they are paying the price. |

Yeah, Charter is pretty bad. Out here in Whitewater they're pretty much the only option, so they get away with piss poor quality. Lower channels of cable are usually fuzzy and the internet is hit or miss a lot of the time. Not impressed and won't use them once I get out of here. |

This is not bias or sarcasm. It is a editorial comment. The editors do realise that we are intelligent enough to disregard these comments to get the actual story. And of course we come here to read the news because there is also analysis with it which makes it enjoyable. |
