Re: If

LOL! This is going to be great, cause you can bet your life CV will now rush to issue that $3 billion special dividend, so that any company looking to buy CV will have a boatload of debt to take on. Thus killing any possible takeover by another cable company. Just hope VZ gets some more franchise agreements approved to kill CV.

TWC to buy CV? No way...

... such deal will be OK'ed by FCC. In such case most of NYC will be covered by a single cable provider - and it's already sux that despite "opened cables" they do not compete nor serve on each others area everywhere in the city.

Someone will eventually. Charter, on their current path, is heading for bankruptcy. TWC is a likely candidate.

We're getting an upgrade to 7000/512+ when Charter is still stuck at 3000/256 in most areas.

The problem is the territories that Mediacom owns. I think TW would invest a lot less time and money than Mediacom even if they have more resources. This was the problem with TCI and AT&T; as far behind as Mediacom looks, these areas were even farther behind under AT&T. Unfortunately, I think Mediacom's management of their territories is going downhill. I just don't think TW or a similar company would make any real improvements though.
One of the biggest problems though with Mediacom is that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. The better a franchise is managed by local government, the better the outcomes they get. While service might become more even, it would probably just become evenly bad.

You're right, that's why I dropped Charter 4 years ago, and went with SBC, now AT&T.

OMG! I haven't used ISCABBS in a while - is it still up? I compiled the client (back in the 90's) for VAX/VMS to avoid the long queue on Telnet back then.

If Charter does fall apart, they're more likely to go out piecemeal -- large parts of their operations in the Southeast, for instance, make much more sense for Comcast and Cox (not to mention the fact that both TWC and Cox cannot own cable systems in the Atlanta area.)

Mediacom is one of the most inconsistent cable companies I've ever seen -- they're as inconsistent if not more so than Charter. At least they aren't uniformly terrible like some smaller companies (Northland, Cebridge, etc.) are...

I have to disagree, especially given the presence of Verizon and RCN. Besides, there have never been geographic ownership limits placed on MSOs, only the aggregate ownership limits that apply at a national level.

Cox would probably snag them as it's the only other Cable company that I know is near the section of Charter I'm thinking of.

Not Going to Happen

Cablevision is one of the most sought after companies in the northeast. Their assets alone are worth millions. Any deal involving them will probably be in the double digit billions.

Also of note, this dumb rumour/suggestion surfaces at least twice a year. Chances are, no sale will, nor should happen. I'm enjoying my Optimum services too much to have to think that it'll be replaced by Time Warner's average at best offerings.
