at&t is not the only one

there was a report of 2 brothers of there in iraq or afghanistan who found that there was a functioning cell tower and they had a phone sent and were using tmobile's international roaming to text back and forth and then they decide to jack up the rate 4x the amount to the point where the family cant afford it

.01 + Costs

It may cost them .01 cents a minute whole sale, but lets not forget AT&T had to set up the infastructure and maintain the facilties that the Troops use. Lets not forget the man power required to operate everything - add that all in the pure cost of .01 cents for the calls connection goes WAY up. 21 cents a minutes is somewhat resonable esp if you consider (as someone else said) to call there from the US is 79 cents a minute.

Re: .01 + Costs

and let's not forget who provides protection to whatever "contractors" AT&T has deployed over there in Iraq.

when you compare the size of the AT&T montrosity versus the 100,000 troops over there, that's a drop in the bucket for their total base. iow - they can afford to take a hit at a nickel a minute.
