SONY CEO, Howard Stringer, has confirmed that the PS3 which was supposed to be in the shops soon, will not now be around until the end of the year. Stringer said the delay is due to a hold-up with chips crucial to the success of the console's Blu-ray functions. He said Sony will roll out the PS3 by the end of the year, in time for the Yule-tide binge. Stringer wants the PS3 to be a vehicle for Blu-ray discs as well as videogames. This suggests the PS3's success may not as important to Sony as getting Blu-Ray off the ground. It seems the cunning plan is to make the PS3 the killer platform that will knock out HD-DVD and install Blu-ray as the dominant video standard.

Dont you get it? sony wants to pocket billions of dollars from blue ray. If sony gets the standard on blue ray they will be so rich. they are already trying to stay out of bankruptcy. They will probably charge $40 to any company that wants to make a blue ray device. They already want to charge 40$ for 1 blank blueray disk. That means TDK or someone else who wants to make the blank disk will have to charge you 60$ to make a profit. screw blue ray. I am glad sony has to restructure. About time they get what they deserve for screwing over real gamers. |

I've been waiting, patiently. When asked, "Did you get an XBOX360" I politely reply with, waiting for PS3.
When I heard it would be delayed until 2007, I began to think of possibly purchasing a 360 to step up my gaming experience. I decided to wait and see what happens.
Now hearing that the PS3 could come out this year but still no word on pricing makes me wonder if I should bother anymore. I've been very loyal to the Sony brand; and would like it to continue HOWEVER i'm a little unsure if I should continue to wait. I guess i'll find out on March 15th. |

...and their constant ridiculous lying about PS3. Everybody knew and knows it won't be shipping before the Summer, rather end of the year yet Sony kept and keeps lying about a March-April release date. So pathetic... Blu-Ray is late, PS3 is late... everything Sony touches will be fucked up...
OTOH I boycott Sony for the rootkit, so I don't care at all. |

But Sony can (and most likely will) release this console before this years ends... And I see no reason to doubt that this system will cost any more than $500. Hell, at that time you wouldn't be able to find a Blu-Ray player anywhere near that price. |

I've been waiting for the ps3 for sometime now. I'm not someone who plays games as much as a hard core gammer, but when I do... I like all the power as if I was. 
I just decided I could use an upgrade (from ps1) and was going to buy ps2, but heard that ps3 will be coming out soon. Why the wait? Well when I bought ps1, about 2 weeks after they told everyone ps2 was coming. lol |

You are underestimating the Asian(Japanese in particular)fanboys market.The 360 is selling below the expectations there because 95 % of the console gamers are waiting for the PS3.I doubt that the price will be a big factor for them when it come out.
Maybe in North America the PS3 will lose ground for the reasons you guys mentionned but globally i can't see the PS3 losing the battle. |

Yeah, I think we should all pay Microsoft more money instead. Then they can dominate gaming on PC and XBOX easily. They already make money from gamers buying PC's with Windows XP, so why not make them richer instead. I can see the drama with this "BlueRay" junk, but still, MS dominated gaming because they have $$$ and vendors to back them. |

What you're likely to get with BlueRay is the standard 10 hours of game play, a bunch of "extras" that no one cares about, demos for other games as filler, and a different set of anti-piracy features that no one's cracked yet.
