| Re: bla bla bla Yeah -- that's the steepest "penalty" I've seen. Most of the cable companies ding you $10/month if you don't also subscribe to a basic television package. BellSouth's $40/month is an egregious abuse of market position.
Although I still think it's a weak position, at least they have an argument that unbundled DSL and cable services require higher margins because the cost of the connection has to be covered by a single service. With WiMax, it's a completely separate service that does not share the same connection. As a regulated monopoly, can BellSouth use revenue from telephone services to enter new markets? This smells rotten.

| Re: bla bla bla Let me take a minute to provide some accurate information about the pricing. First the disclosure: I work for BellSouth Wireless Broadband (WBB).
The pricing that you all have been quoted is not correct. BellSouth offers 3 levels of WBB:
1) Residential 'Lite' 384/128Kb is $29.95 standalone and $24.95 with BellSouth or Cingular
2) Residential 'Ultra' 1.5/256 is $39.95 standalone and $32.95 w/ BellSouth or Cingular
3) Business 'Ultra' 1.5/384 is $69.95 as the name descibres is for commercial accounts.
The recent additional of 'WBB back-up' is $29.95 is designed for businesses that want a back-up for their wireline ADSL or T1.

I had to dump Charter becaus ein my first month having them I got internet 1/3 of the time and their support sucked and didn't do a damned thing to fix my problem. I've BS for a month now and I've never lost my connection. It sucks paying for a extra phone # I don't need since I had Packet8 when I signed up with Charter, plus I signd up for a $19.99 for 6 months deal with Charter, plus all the expenese of having to sign up with BS, but that not BellSouth's fault that's Charter's fault.

| BellSouth? Ick.... Agreed I am not a fan of BellSouth. AT&T (SBC) offers its customers better prices. BellSouth currently makes customers sign up 1 year contract verse cable no commitment. BellSouth makes customers who want to use their ADSL, Wireless services, pay for your wireless equipment or your ADSL modem unless you get a deal (contract ie.. after rebate) you pay up front. And whole lot of taxes fees somehow it doesn't cost just what they say. At&T costs 1.5mb line about $15USD wow good deal. Again Ick BellSouth. Would like to see AT&T work. Still no DSL in my area. Like the Company Motto " Listening, Answering." Lots of laugh. Thanks BellSouth. Keep up your excellent reputation. | |

| A 'Backup' service? So, basically they're saying their DSL sucks and is going to go down a lot? Oh wait, a backup incast hurricanes take the landlines down. What about other cities that aren't as concerned about that? Why aren't they marketing it as a have internet everywhere service? | |

1 edit | Re: A 'Backup' service? Hey now... Bash away, like every other talking parrot on this board, but give BellSouth their due.
Everyone I know has said time and time again that Fastaccess is rock solid and VASTLY better than the other options around here. We had Comcast for a couple of years when we moved into our new house (which should, once again, contradict accusations that I work for BellSouth) and it was down literally 3-5 times a day for weeks at a time. Our neighborhood even sent a huge group letter from our lawyer to Comcast about it. I switched to Fastaccess a while ago, and it's been down once in three years. I get 800k/sec from my 6mbit connection. Pretty sweet.
To be fair, I've heard that Comcast has made the service better here, but I'm long gone as a customer.

| Re: Bellsouth been good for me I have DSL with BellSouth and have a fix for that "no naked" deal.
Simply take and downgrade your local phone service to basic for about 17.45 / 27.00 w/taxes.
Next go and put your phone line on VACATION HOLD. bellsouth.com/vacation
In GA I paid a $20 fee to do this then it is supposed to be 50% of the phone line basic charge so for me about $8.73 a month. The DSL line is not dropped. You can do the vacation hold for up to 9 months. You also can have a recorded message telling your forwarding number. I had mine set to my Sunrocket.com VoIP phone.
I saved and have the best of both worlds.
