I'm glad that Mr. Roberts thinks so highly of his cable internet hub. It's good to see competition as well, it would just be nice if there were multiple cablecos and telcos in the same market to compete against each other. Last night when I called about the awesome speeds I was getting last night.... »/speedtests/76···080885/1
The tech said that testing was mainly in the "high use" areas, but like this article points out, its mainly based around the FIOS service areas. -- Health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die, and the world death rate holds at a steady 100.00% My Photos |

if Fios were in more areas and people compared the pricing and switched over, Brian would be running scared. He is betting that Fios will spread across the country slowly. And he knows that he has the ability to go and match those speeds quickly if he needs to. Everyone knows that Comcast is upgrading equipment and not standing still.
So, it is now a waiting game... |

Well the new Hyundai's offer BMW luxury for a lot less than a BMW. While it is not a BMW they are still very nice.
The issue is that comcast is going to have trouble with network issues when the speed is increased to 16mpbs as they are overloaded in some areas at the current speeds. |

and it is going to be this BMW attitude that is going to get them in the end. As long as they think they are above the competition the telco's are slowing going to eat them alive. it may take a bunch of years but it will happen unless they get off of their high horse real quick. The infrastructure the Telco's have is massively bigger then anything cable has. While much of it is ancient copper with advances in Technology there is still a lot that can be squeezed out of it. -- Low voltage Tech's are wimps, Real tech's use 45 pound filament transformers, plate voltages no less then 2400 volts with at least 10 amp's lighting 8877 triodes...BPL I'm coming to get you.

I'm in Grain Valley. Switch over to SBC DSL. It's much, much better than the crappy Comcast service I was getting. |

I switched from Comcast to SBC DSL in my area mostly because of serious packet loss and latency problems in the evenings. I can't see how bumping saturated nodes up to 16 Mbps is going to help.
I'll never go back unless I have to. I like paying 1/2 as much for a much more stable service even if my download speeds are lower. |

Comcast is so damn arrogant sometimes. They automatically assume that the exact services provided by Comcast is exactly what everyone wants and in turn are only to happy to pay the premium for their service. (In other words Comcast automatically assumed everyone wants a BMW and is willing to pay for it when some people are completely happy with Hyundai) That thinking is wrong. Comcast needs to wake up and realize that this is not the case. A LOT of people go with a provider soley based on cost. Sorry to say Comcast is loosing that particular battle. Not everyone wants the highest speeds since most people will NOT need that kind of speed yet. If this continues on its current track Comcast is at some point going to push out a lot of customers because of the cost. What is their statement going to be then when customers go to other providers because of cheaper prices.
I am glad to see Verizon FIOS giving Comcast some competition. I wish Comcast would compete like this with all telcos (I live in Qwest territory). Competition only helps the consumer.
***I realize I rambled a bit and maybe a bit off topic. LOL I'm sorry but when I made my initial remarks about the BMW/Hyundai thing other thoughts came to mind about Comcast and so I said them. =) |

It will not help. I live in Seattle....South/West Seattle to be exact. I had Comcast a few times. I never ever noticed this slow down during certain times of day. Years ago when it was AT&T Broadband changing to Comcast I noticed the slow down but not lately. I always got over the stated cap speeds no matter when I was signed on. What is interesting is that I know a few people who don't live that far away from me....maybe 5-10 miles and they always complain on how slow Comcast gets during the late afternoon. Now, I thought Comcast fixed that particular problem for people. I guess not. If they haven't then like you said, going to this new tier will NOT help at all. |

And so far, defections to low cost DSL hasn't been big enough to make them do that. When that does occur, you will see price drops, but not before. -- -- Join Red Room Forum BLOG tkjunkmail.blogspot.com My Web Page |

| I wouldn't say an economic benefit but more like an economic threat and you're right. When that threat occurs, prices will drop. However, what I said still has merit because Comcast continually raises prices on their services. Granted, more video than net lately. However, Comcast will start raising the net prices too. They will continue this track doing over the top price increases on a yearly basis and that will start pushing people away from them because of cost. |

...competition will bring about better service, not a monopoly.
The ONLY reason some places are seeing this upgrade is because FIOS is in town and notice how Comcast is pushing that 1Mbps speed difference.
Sorry, but this shows that Comcast is reactionary and not pro-active. |

| Nuts!
This is totally nuts. No one even needs 15Mbps. The only reason you would (that I can think of) is for a high-powered server/network of servers or downloading illegally. The other end has to support the speed too. I am very happy with 3Mb down that I have. I would be fine with 1.5Mb too.
I am a network administrator, and I understand that many folks like to do multimedia. But, a lot of folks don't even need 512Kbps. That would only be for bursts. |
