Comments on news posted 2006-03-24 13:02:40: Back in February, we pointed out how one Minnesota man was blaming Vonage for being put on hold by 911, despite no actual evidence Vonage did anything wrong, or that the Vonage systems were to blame. "I called 911 using Vonage broadband and they .. ..

lol

I have to say this, I dont appreciate seeing Spin put into the news; the obvious slant is easily seen in the mods last sentence...eh, thought the front stories would be free of opinion and just "news"...

i think defying the piglice orders to go back into the house to get your PC is what many of us BBR readers would do...specially if your work is on that PC... i do audio mastering and creation stuff, so I prolly would of pushed the cops and fire man aside to get my PC!

*upon reading other articles in the post, it seems the the IP service had trouble in atleast one case, which was not being able to give the emergency call centers caller id-type info instantly: A spokeswoman for Vonage said her heart goes out to the family. She said the basic 911 service does work, but admits it needs work.

"We do expect to have a solution in place that allows people to call 911 and get their phone number and their location displayed on the dispatcher's screen before the end of the year," said Brooke Schulz(Vonage spokesperson) Granted this event took place in '05, still doesnt negate the fact that the service f'ed up the call, emergecy or no emergency...I think theres fact in peoples opinons of bad service from IP phones, Mr. Mod...hehe, lata...

Ha! Most likely that was it, as he would not go and get the MP3's as he would have been worried about the RIAA...

Then you would be as dumb as this idiot. I seriously doubt most BBR members are stupid enough to go back into a burning house.

If my wife and/or my daughter were inside, I don't care who would try to stop me-I would go back. Does that make me an idiot?

If you value your computer as much as your wife and/or daughter, then yes.

yea, guess Im an idiot...

When you assume to much, you make yourself like an ASS...*

Never said I jump through fire, but if I saw a clear path, why not? I mentioned, in joking manner, that I would. Go get a life lil feller.

Emergency personal took their time, why cant i have my time with the inferno?

haaaa.

*ehhh. Its posted as NEWS on the frontpage...

I thought OP ed's were done at the back of the newspaper? Stupid me!

to CaddyRojer, Check out how many home fire-related deaths occured in my area of MD, which Montgomery and Prince Georges County. Doesnt seem like the firemen are doing a gotdamn thing around here, so your right, in a way, not that they dont "need" to save me, its a question of if they want! Least thats what the neighborhoods think of the local fire departments...owned!

can't say I'd run into a burning house but i'd be very sad if my computer was destroyed. Have a lot of important information and my life with my files though generally I back them up to a memory stick which fits in my pocket or around my neck.

Re: Here we go again....

How exactly did Vonage "prove" anything? Hate to say it, but, yes, Vonage and all VOIP need the same regulations phone companies do. It is hilarious people on BBR give these idiots (any VOIP co) high ratings yet gripe it doesn't work half the time. They had to send me 5 gizmos b4 it worked. I had to reconfigure my whole home network to figure it out. Does it go b4 or after the router? Which port should I set it on? etc, etc, etc. Maybe they should ONLY allow it to be sold to a person that signs a waiver?

Perhaps, Vonage shouldn't SELL its product to someone unless they pass a tech test. OR, JUST PRINT A LABEL SAYING "NOT FOR 911 CALLS IN MOST CASES!"

And, BBR, you are so slanted it is pathetic.

Gizmo's? Not a Vonage product. Setup? It's all on their site. "Grip all the time"? Oh, you mean gripe. And if you had to reconfigure your whole home network, etc then just like you said, they shouldn't have sold it to you I guess.

I'll say it again

I will not depend on any VoIP phone system for anything serious at this time. POTS has gone to great lengths to assure their service is reliable. I remember back a several decades ago as a Army National Guardsmen I was patrolling a neighborhood that had been largely destroyed by a tornado. I heard a phone ring. Here was a phone sitting on a what was left of a kitchen counter in a home which was mostly destroyed. A lady came out of the basement of this house to answer it. I have aways regretted not having a camera to record this. To me this has always symbolised the reliability of POTS.
