| said by jgkolt :isnt there a cap to the amount of donations they can recieve? There is, but you can always find ways to get the money to them, be it illegal, legal, or border-line moral. I think it's often a mixture the legal and border line moral that makes it to their pockets. |

| reply to jgkolt said by jgkolt :Isnt there a cap to the amount of donations they can receive? Yeas, but this isn't going to the Congresscritter. It's going to a community center founded by him. But you KNOW he's going to get some of it, one way or another. Probably will put half his "family" on the board or something. -- "Americans have this funny habit of confusing freedom, which they cherish, with choice, which can give them headaches." Is this really news? Congresscritters get lobbied. Other Congresscritters are getting money from Cable companies to block the bill. It has been this way since 1800. If you want to play, get a group together; collect money; and pay your favorites.
The rich(rich people & rich groups) run the world, they always have, and always will. You can complain about that, but it won't change anything. -- -- Join Red Room Forum BLOG tkjunkmail.blogspot.com My Web Page |

When the law is bent so far AND out in the open, people will complain and change will be forced.

And if you want him out then voting against him is the thing to do. But if you REALLY want him to lose than you better form a group, organize, and get off your ass and do something. Because if you don't, and he has more money for TV ads(a given for incumbents), then the average voter(who are morons and vote based on TV ads) will put him back in office. And 95% of incumbents are returned to office because of their money advantages. And the 5% of incumbents that lose usually are: convicted while in office; arrested pedophiles; or up against an opponent that has a personal wealth of at least $500 million.

| reply to pabster I moved out of Illinois (well, one of the reasons) because just about every politician is crooked beyond belief (the former Gov. just got convicted ... on many counts, current Gov is being investigated and the Mayor of Chicago is "always under investigation" ... though you have to love Mayor Daley, it is Chicago after-all and you gotta love it when he blows his top) The state of IL. notion of constructive and effective broadband development is to form a committee (broadband task force .. which the Gov. does not support ... but the Lt. Gov leads) Go figure that one out !
BUT ... Illinois has some strong guys in DC who can "bring home the bacon" ... yea right, I'll believe that one when I see it. All the IL. politico's in DC (other than Obama) are part of the same machine that is causing this whole mess ... all the money is going "through" Bobby R. in my opinion in order to shelter DH and his cronies.
I'm a cheese-head now so gotta bash IL. whenever you can or they give you a ticket up here ... was part of an oath they make you take when you get a new drivers license |

This is Illinois, where the most recent ex-governor was just convicted on over a dozen corruption charges. Nothing new.

| Self interest
As we can see from this particular politician, he works for his self interests, not the people he is suppose to represent. There is suppose to be balance in a free market but where is it? Politicians like these turn a free market society into a lopsided one. The politician gets the money, fame, glory, and the people get nothing. |

1 edit | If I was in the cable business 13
I would do the same thing. Instead of letting some no-load activist group give me the screw over I would try to lobby congress. The problem is not the money but the attempt regulate a private business. The solution is simple. Business is nobody (beep). You have a right to cable and you do not have a right to force cable to provide certain service. I believe in complete deregulation. If government had no say there would be no need for lobbing. Cable should be nothing more than a voluntary contract between consumer and business. Nobody can apply force. The cable company can force me to buy and I can not force the cable company to provide a service it dose not want to sell.
I lived many years with out a TV. and after paying $110 cable bill, lack of on demand widescreen movies, and cutting me off for some on demand channels because I do not have a digital package, I decide to deep six the cable box. I am sick and tired of broadcast tv. I am not going drop what I am doing to watch my favorite show. I am going to wait for the DVD.
My plan 1. Dump cable ( I will keep the cable broadband for now) 2. subscribe to net flicks 3. purchase streaming of survivor episode if I am in the mood. 4. Use savings for cable bill to buy 24, doctor Who DVD when available |
