How about some DSL providers increase their speeds, or roll out some new technology. I could care less of who has more subscribers...you know? Although I do find it interesting that DSL outranked Cable in this quarter, especially considering the speed difference. -- Forget 'em, Support the Indies. »www.ind-music.com |

And this will continue so long as cable is $45 and DSL is $15. Not everyone is into speed. |

Most of broadband internet users in the US really don't need/want a lot of speed. They just want to pay less and have their phone line available at the same time.
Until cable companies start offering lower tiers with decent prices and actually advertise them instead of using them for customer retention only this trend will continue. |

I would be happy with 3 Megabits, but I'm stuck with 1.5 and there are several reasons for it. But I still love my ISP and the DSL is rock solid in my area. -- Forget 'em, Support the Indies. »www.ind-music.com |

768K is fast for most people. Viewing web pages and downloading files is still fast. Its not worth the extra money to get a faster speed since web browsing won't be any faster. Heck, my 100mbps fiber connection doesn't load web pages any faster than cable or dsl, but download and uploading is another matter:) -- AWD Turbo Power |

If you are not into speed 1.5mbps is all you need and its gonna be 12.99 for 1 year plus 3 months free if you were previously a cable subscriber. Some can get 3.0 and its 17.99 so its pretty cheap still Or 29.99 for the speed demon user. 6.0/768 should be good enough to even please the speed hungry folks.
CC/RR you must listen to me. You must offer lower tier to complete with DSL 1.5/283 for 14.99 3.0/512 for 19.99 6.0/768 for 29.99 10/1.0 for 39.99

| Don't forget to add in the cost of POTS. For many, its not an issue, as Cable ties its price in with TV.
DSL: $17.95 for 3000/512 + 1 month free - UNBUNDLED! Cable: $29.95 for 6Mpbs/512? for 3 months, $56.95 after UNBUNDLED
Even after adding in $10 - $20 for POTS, its still a lot cheaper, and there's a $12.95 for 1500/384 kbps package too. |

I pay $34/month for cable inet that runs at 7 Mbps...the major DSL provider Bell Sympatico runs over $40/month for 3 Mbps and is incredibly unforgiving when you venture away from the CO and have a house full of old copper |

Doyou have a bandwidth cap? say 60gb per month for lower tier or 120gb forhigher tier? In America we may not have the best speed or the latest gadget but unlimited use is what set us apart from the rest of the world. What use is 10/10 with 100gb cap? sures itfaster then most provider in USA but ya got limited use so its no beter. |

Plus the vast majority of people still have POTS so bundling isn't a big issue.
I wonder if VZ who now sells dry loop would do their $15 deal dry loop. |

Yep there's a cap...set at 60 GB combined, but I download without hesitation and have yet to receive an email. I came from a provider that had no cap, but they throttled bit-torrent. |

I switched from cable to DSL and saving about $19 a month. My cable advertised speeds of 6mps/368. I only received 2.5-3.5 90% of the time and never was close to 4mps. Plus had outages several times a week. I switched to DSL six months ago and the only outage I have had is when I moved the modem to my new office. My speed is a steady 2.5-2.8 all day and night with 620-660 up.
I have the same down speed and twice as fast up speed for $19 cheaper a month.
Plus I have dropped my cable TV. They have raised the price twice already this year. I now save over $20 a month with Dish Network and have all the movie channels (only had HBO with cable) with four TVs hocked up with two 100 hour DVRs.
So I think the main reason why more people are signing up for DSL is because the cable companies simple cost to much for their services. I am saving about $40 per month not have any cable service in my house. |

I've been completely happy with my DSL service for ~6 years. The only problem I had was when rodents chewed the wires up down the street. Also, AT&T(SBC) will be coming out with dry DSL, so you don't HAVE to buy tone to get DSL. It was part of the agreement when SBC bought AT&T. |

DSL would be good if I could get it. But I can't. Only cable HSI is my option. So, cable is it for me. And to be honest. I am very happy with the service I get. I wonder how many others are in this situation. *** Verizon won't wire my street/area for DSL. And is looking to sell all it's lines in Maine. |
