| dress code. well in the last 3 days, i have had comcast over here to explain to me wtf was wrong with my modem loosing sync out of no where.
one shows up wed, checks everything out and it was the RG59 line that was running to the modem. old cable (15 years old) does not make for a very good connection.
the line was leaking signal so bad all the TVs in the house were fuzzy. so, 2 more guys show up today for a reinstall of the modem line. problem solved.
i only had to talk to the BS CS agent once, and that was wed to be sure he did his 21 point checklist. he had his own cell phone, call took less than 30 seconds. today, they were here about an hour, one was on the ladder doing the line and fastening it to the house and the other one was rewiring the box. they called to check the modem status, they had an instant answer and that call from tech to support was about 45 seconds.
all 3 dressed identical to the guy in the video, but there is one thing missing in the video. no comcast hat (they are tan) and you can not see his shirt, the guys today had the same red shirt with the tan shorts but the sirts are clearly marked comcast and they have id badges either on the belt or around thier neck.
if i were on a comcast slamming spreee, and believe me i have been mad enough at them to do that, i would have at least gotten a shot of the ID badge or his shirt or pan from the window (where the truck might be) to him sleeping on the couch.

The guy could of atleast given him a pillow and a nice cold soda not a glass of fountain water.

| sleeping cable guy Im a comcast tech in washington state. We absolutly have to wear uniforms and that decision comes direct from division HQ. Strictly enforced, let me tell you. We also absolutly cant wear shorts for safety reasons. If this is a comcast employee i'd like to know what part of the country he's working in and if they can wear shorts....im envious.
As far as waiting on hold, we do have a direct number for our provisioning issues but like fiberguy said sometimes there is hold time and sometimes it can be a long time. I can think of numerous times where im on hold, its been a long day and i have gotten tired. Normally i'll excuse myself and roam around the outside of the home and get the blood flowing again.
Point being, if this was a comcast guy, put yourself in the situation and you might find it easy to do the same. Comcast does its best to hire decent techs but there is (with every occupation) sometimes bad apples.

| Put yourself in the tech's shoes!! You work in the south - say FL or GA or LA or TX or soCA so you've taken advantage of the special dress code for those 90 degree/90% humidity days. You've had a busy day -- 8 trouble tickets to roll to, 3 or 4 needed new lines and/or drops to be run. You're finally at your last job, which thank god is easy just a modem provision issue. Concasts lines are all filled up because of some network/email snafu from earlier that day...so you're on hold...on hold...on hold...blood sugar is low from being past dinner...on hold on hold on hold... Look at your watch...wasn't I here at 4:30? And now it's 6:00...on hold on hold on hol..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. -- 'The tighter the RIAA squeezes their grip, the more stars and systems will slip through their fingers.' | Re: Hey i am not even sure watching the video if he was in fact asleep. It appears he might be holding a phone to his head and simply kicking back. The person who made the video i think is simply laying their attributional biases out there like stink on rat droppings. They basically admit to hating Comcast to such a degree you have to wonder why they bother with the service at all. The only conclusion i can draw is they indeed hate them so much that any opportunity (real or unreal) to paint them in a negative fashion for the treatment they feel they received is just. That said....if the guy was in fact sleeping....his supervisor should deal with him appropiately. People that rest on the fringes and say he should be fired are reactionary fools. Perhaps the guy is doing 15 calls a day or is being forced to work extremely long hours and is reasonably exhausted. Perhaps he has a medical condition and his narcolepsy is triggered when dealing with anal retentive mean spirited customers. Perhaps the customer struck him with a blunt object (ala Richard Gere in Unfaithful) and then filmed the poor guy in an effort for some perverted game of "gotch fired". Perhaps i have speculated enough on this whole thing and will simply shut up! | |

| grrrr What bothers me about this the most that alot of people are taking for granted is the domino effect it is having. First off, the tech who fell asleep is a moron who deserved to be fired! Now with that being said, I know for a fact that Comcast is punishing the contract house that the tech worked for. Both my husband and my brother work for the same contract house. They are both very hard working men, who enjoy their job *most days* And with Comcast withholding routes from this contract house, it has a major effect on the families of the employees who have done nothing wrong! Prior to this incident, the guys had plenty of routes from Comcast on a daily basis, since this incident, the guys are lucky if they get to work early enough to snag one of few routes that have trickled through! I'm not disputing that Comcast isn't the best cable / internet provider out there... but this is beyond that! | |
