Walmart should be getting into the WISP business, not the DSL business.
now I have to listen to ANOTHER pissed off redneck in the store because the rep just told him they can't get DSL to his outhouse.

Bad decision to team up with Verizon. Verizon will cut off service if you actually use them according to the lousy Verizon TOS! Walmart is going to have a ton of angry customers after Verizon cancel the customers service! -- low cost and fast speed is what customers want in broadband |

| I'm not sure what you are talking about here... the story is about DSL not EVDO. They are very lax on their TOS for residential internet. I do not get the purpose of Verizon selling DSL at a local store. Unlike cable, one still has to wait 21 days before Verizon get around to provisioning the phone line for DSL. I do not see selling DSL locally working out for Walmart. |

From the WalMart site »www.walmartfacts.com/wal-mart-wages.aspx
"Walmart wages are competitive with others in the retail industry.
At Wal Mart, the majority of our hourly associate positions are full-time.
The national average for regular hourly Walmart wages is nearly twice the federal minimum wage, and higher in urban areas.
In addition to competitive Walmart wages, the total compensation package includes much more. Associates are eligible for performance based bonuses and Wal-Mart also contributes to the employee profit sharing/401(k) plan. They also receive merchandise discounts, company-paid life insurance, and vacation pay.
Add opportunity for advancement to competitive Walmart wages, too. Seventy-six percent of our store management team started in hourly positions."
Don't forget, the $5.15/hour minimum wage is a starting wage for someone with no experience or skills. Most companies pay people according to a persons experience and length of service.
Also, I don't remember it being an employer's requirement to guarantee anyone enough hours to qualify for overtime pay. |

Not even those UFCW ones that make you wait just as long as Walmart to get insurance and hide the cost of the plan under "union dues"...which you pay for from day one.
Not that this has anything to do with retail employees being able to look up your phone number on VZ's website. -- gau gau |

| reply to fixitman no kidding. thats nice that a lot of people are willing to work overtime. But if the workload doesn't demand it, then why do people feel entitled they should have it?
Overtime is for when something has come along that cannot posibly be met within the normal 40 hour work week. things like natural disasters that require the utilities to work overtime.
A pallet of good is not going to rot if its not stocked THIS WEEK. So get over it. Overtime is for emergencies, and I don't see too many emergencies happening at Wal-mart. -- "WHEN THE LAUGH TRACK STARTS THEN THE FUN STARTS!" |

For the same reason they think that entry level employers should bear the burden of bringing people, who are such poor employee's that the only job they can get is at somewhere like Walmart at minimum wage, up to the same standard of living as someone who actually shows up for work reliably.
Face it, if you can't find a better long term, primary job than the lowest levels of the Walmart employment chain and you're over 20 you either aren't looking hard enough or you suck at work.
I've been there, I worked nightstock at a grocery store (UFCW, minimum wage no insurance for 2 years) for 6 months while I took my time looking for a better job. -- gau gau |

BUT.... it is a great advertising gimmick that will likely benefit in new sales not only to Verizon, but to Wal-Mart... as customers may go ahead and buy their first computer right there, while in the store, after seeing the Verizon booth. -- ~Help find a cure for Cancer~ ~Proud Member of Team Discovery ~ |

This will be good especially for the super Walmart in New Castle, PA where they already have a deal with Comcast. Now the customers over there have a more options when they sign up through Walmart.
