| Yes, I've never needed to move beyond wired. Network cable is like 1 cent a foot, including shipping. Basically free. Plus I don't like laptops because I can't build them myself, and they have VERY limited upgradeablility.(see my new word?) Might as well get a Mac..  |

At home have netgear g 100mbs? laptop only has built in "b" 11mbs which I use 90% of the time. Need anything faster, connect up to gig bit wired lan. I know there are some that have a need for speed, but I'm guessing for home use that satisfies 90% of the market. |

You would be complaining that two standards based gear did not talk to each other or interfered with other gear.
However, nothing is holding you from getting pre-standard/draft-standard gear if you really need it. |

If pre N gear accomplishes your needs for wireless, the stick with it. The "N" battle will go on far past 2007.

Actually I care. This pre draft stuff violates FCC rules about interference. My neighbor installed pren gear and now I had to boost my signals to keep his stuff from drowing out my wifi.
I literally could not get more than 1 wall away from the AP without issues.

I don't think it is politics guys. There are problems with the technology. As stated in the article, performance of pre-N is falling short of expectations and the fact it tends to kill 802.11b/g gear is a big unforseen problem. What I think all this means is that they are sort of going back to the drawing board to iron out the problems. That probably means the pre-N gear out now won't be upgradeable whenever they do ratify it.
I'll bet a lot of this pre-N gear will disappear once they sell what's on the shelves now. 802.11b/g works just fine for now and is a lot cheaper. I don't see any reason to upgrade till it's all sorted out IMHO. |

If the equipment really did violate FCC rules, it would be illegal to import or sell in this country.
Bottom lines is that all the current 802.11 equipment works on an unlicensed basis in the radio spectrum. From a regulatory point of view, you have no guarantees any of it will work without interference, and if you do experience interference, you have no recourse. If you want freedom from interference, you need to get a license in an appropriate slice of spectrum, or you need to run a wire. |

Secondly, interference on the shared/unlicensed spectrum is expected and FCC is not going to do anything unless the equipment does cause interference in a licensed band. |
