This way you can still tether the phone to your laptop to use the EVDO, plus if you get the right plan then EVDO is free. You can also make voice calls using the phone as well.

When Sprint starts rolling Rev A out this year and next, there will be a lot of happier road warriors who will be able to move those spreadsheets and word documents back and forth to corporate much faster. The better upload speeds will be the most appreciated change.

The better upload speeds will be the most appreciated change. As will (my personal favorite) the "ability" to make VoIP calls. I say "ability" since I have a feeling that Sprint will try and curb this activity as it eats into the cellular minutes. I can say that I have used both Skype and Broadvoice on my current EVDO Sprint phone a number of times, the only issue being the high latency causes noticeable delays making conversation difficult. 50ms would be ideal for some sweet (and FREE) VoIP action!

I "believe" that some Verizon phones now allow tethering, although I believe you do have to pay extra for this. If you are planning on buying I would double check what I just told you, since I am only going off memory and a quick Google search.

I'm with Verizon, and their second level tech support told me that all their current EV-DO cards will be able to take advantage of Rev. A when it rolls out. Have I been lied to (again)? |

However, Rev A. cards will be backwards compatible with current EVDO.

All you need is the application on your phone and the ability to connect it to your PC. Assuming you have EVDO, you are good to go. I have and use Sprint everyday and there is no charge for tethering.

I got away with tethering my 144k simple Sprint network, but that was because I couldnt pull down allot of data on it. EVDO will rack up the data usage MUCH faster.
I download on average around 1mb just about all the time and occasionally around 1.5mb.
The Speed is better then advertised, which is really rare for a service. |
