But what about all the Viatalk issues lately? How come they never made the front page?

Seriously. I even like Viatalk better than SR, but fair's fair. This outage is nothing compared to the litany of problems that viatalk users have posted. I'm just sayin'...

SunRocket Down & Spamming

Yes, it's been another rough week for SunRocket, with many members reporting outages, voicemail problems, 800# dialing problems, dead air, and more.

Troublingly, in a flurry of reports from all over the country, many members find that they are now receiving spam emails on their dedicated SunRocket email accounts on private domains.

Re: Allow me to start it off...

I'm a ViaTalk user (and like it better than SunRocket), but I also agree. It is puzzling this made the front page, but the ViaTalk issues have not. While I haven't really noticed severe problems with my service, I don't see where SunRocket has been worse over the past week or so. Maybe it has to do with the size of the subscriber base?

Spamming????

I do not have spamming problems either. Furthermore, my cox email which I never gave out, no person, no webform,,, is full of spam.

There are many, many ways for spammers to sent you emails. Blaming SR when their TOS states they will not give it out might be unsubstantiated

I hadn't really noticed the ViaTalk issues, but I've added a link to one discussion in the forum above. Any time you see something I've missed on the news front, please feel free to submit it here. I find it very helpful.

First off, the TOS is points to their Privacy Policy. It's a bit different.

Their privacy policy states-

SunRocket collects and uses personally identifiable information - such as name, e-mail address, and credit card information - for billing and provisioning of service, to solve problems associated with service, and to inform customers and prospective customers of new SunRocket products or services that will better meet their needs. SunRocket may also share such information with business partners to ensure the successful provisioning and operation of its services and to facilitate the marketing of SunRocket products and services. However, SunRocket does not sell, trade, or disclose personally identifiable information to third parties for unrelated marketing purposes. In addition, any customer who wishes not to receive information about new or different SunRocket products or services may decline to receive such offers.

So the interesting point is that they sell the info to "business partners" ie BlueHornet. You have to then check all of the "business partners" privacy policies from there.

p.s.

I meant the Privacy Policy in the previous post.

interesting, however, when a company hands down consumers info to a partner that does not mean that the partner owns the info and now can sell fwd. Thus, you do not have to seek fwd in their TOS (since you do not have any with them) In that case they might be sending you promos to use their service, thus the spam.

Regardless, I have not seen any more spam other than the usual "pharmacies, get it bigger , investors and the Nigeria dead dude"

And when a company outsources its customer and technical support to the Philippines, it doesn't necessarily mean that the Filipino tech people will send you official company business emails with messages to "praise Jesus" and with Biblical quotes included in them.

But in the case of SunRocket, that's exactly what happened to me.

I am in Ohio using the NJ server, and I have not had any of the issues that people have been complaining about for the past couple of weeks with Viatalk.(knock on wood)

My $8 + change line works great!

My SR has been up and just fine! Maybe this is just the east coast or something. Can't complain as the price I pay now is less than just the TAXES I paid before! (SR has no extra fees or taxes. I got the 199/2yr deal.)

Re: SunRocket Down & Spamming

I setup a special email account just for Sunrocket use. I'll let you know if I get any spam to it. The username is very very long and not based on dictionary or any other words so there is very little chance of it ever receiving spam.

Yeah, Bad Article Timing

If anything the service has been working much better and more consistently over the last two weeks (for me and I think the majority of users) than it was before. Most of the current crop of issues is really minor and/or uncorroborated stuff -- call logs delayed, spam conspiracy theories, voice mail notifiers. As noted, Viatalk's had the real problems for a change, due to a major systems re-architecture, but I trust that's behind them.

As we speak Sunrocket appears to be rolling out significant upgrades (including the long-awaited failover) so this happy situation is likely to get murkier any minute now...
