Perhaps?

Perhaps I can now stop begging one of the local WISP's to co-locate on a nearby tower. Then again, probably not. Oh well, living out in the boonies does have some drawbacks.

huh?

For instance, you could record your favorite TV show from a mobile phone and watch it on TV later at home.

They already have something that does that - it's called a tivo.

wonder how much it will cost to record a tv show on your mobile phone? and what kind of DRM will it have? and whether it will only play on certain TVs? and what resolution?

what are these idiots thinking?

They are thinking how silly you are for believing their over-hyped PR

finally industry getting a clue

wimax is the sh*t, and poeple need to start realizing this. i've always been surprised by the negativity and hesitance, although there are probably good reasons for the established companies to be hesitant to migrate or accept change ... thats the dark side of capitalism.

innovate, innovate, innovate .. but then, wait, um, no, dont innovate, that will cost us. lets reverse or impede technological evolutionism.

... keep the money flowing ... yeah. there there now.

just for fun

I'll play the tin foil hat card... more rf, more cancer and people complaining, on and on and on... both sides of the debate say neither one can prove anything... to me that means there must be some truth to both sides, and that the ultimate truth is somewhere in between.

anyway, just for your consideration:

then there's this one....

the original story about the Swedish town that had a bunch of people calling in to the hospital right when a tower was turned on... hmm...

personally, I think some good wireless broadband has been a long time coming.

Fun.
Yep, when the birthrate declines big time.
Or the mutations/defects rise.
And after 10 years, a study shows that those who procreated near WiMax feeds had highest rate of defects/cancer. Oh wait, those folks had expired.

Home town call

"Sprint Nextel is matching Clearwire's commitment by vowing to spend $3 billion to provide WiMax access for more than 100 million people by 2008."

Follow the money, it seems Intel is the one doing all the "matching".

"Already, Clearwire has aggressive plans to roll out a proprietary version of WiMax across the U.S. and parts of Europe."

Proprietary? They already have that with their "pre WiMax" as they like to call it.

If you are reall informed abotu wimaxx all it is, is a better form of routing the wireless protocal.

People think they are going to be pushing multi hundreds of megabits. Well I have to let you know SORRY it aint going to happen! the bottleneck is the LAP PC card etc.

Point to point systems will do higher bandwidth but the WIMAX end all be all is not what people think it is going to be. Mark my words!

LOL, if anybody really buys that line of reasoning, they're better off not procreating anyway. RF from WiMax or any other wireless internet would be a drop in a very large bucket compared to your average 50 kilowatt radio station, or for that matter that giant unshielded fusion reactor we call the sun.

yay?

I can't judge simply because I never tried WiMAX but when it's avialable I would see. But it's good to see new technologies being pushed into the field, nothing is better than innovation in the market.

Maybe WiMax is not the best technology out there, but it's a step in the right direction at least. Wireless broadband is the next big thing. I sure hope it improves and provides a big market boom.

Oh; you mean the one right next to my testes? That must be why I have that warm feeling every time some one calls me...

I wonder if they make tin foil hats for the old "stack and swivel?"
