| Zune will flop
This is no iPod killer.
For the same price as a 30GB Zune you can get a 30GB iPod Video.
The WiFi is worthless, so that negates probably the biggest "hype" feature Zune had going for it.
My prediction is the Zune on clearance in short order. |

I was searching in a dictionary of obscure human languages and I came across the word "zune". It would seem it is a word used by a small nomadic tribe in north west Siberia who are related to the Inuit of North America. They are know as the Upchunknucks. Zune, in their language, roughly translates out to "as useful as an Arctic fox turd" I wonder if the team at Microsoft knew about this when they decided on the name for their new MP3 player?
P.S. I just heard a report the new Sony gaming console really embarrassed a bunch of Sony officials at a recent trade show by repeatedly crashing during a demonstration in front of a large crowd of interested spectators and journalists. Oh how I would have wanted to be a "fly on the wall" back stage after this event -- The older I get the more I prefer the company of my dogs over that of man kind. |

i think the zune will be 'cool' once people relize they can load nix on it and actually make use of the wifi. people critisize the xbox and then they hacked it and now they love it!
microsoft puts out hackable products, and for me, there is nothing more fun than cracking it open to see how it works.
on the other hand they do not have the market hold that the ipod does. there are ipod accessories everywhere, even in grocery store endcaps. not to mention all the auto makers that now have the option to have a ipod dock installed that works with the radio and is tucked away in the glovebox/center console. I mean thats a lot of money coming from other companys trying to jump on the ipod craze, and the only reason the big names are doing it this late, is because they are relizing that it dosent matter what ipod you have they all work with the same plug, so it is a reasonable investment for the consumer to buy the 200$ JBL speakers, even if they decide to upgrade thier ipod every month when a new one comes out.
will the zune have a backwards compatible Gen2 ? and can microsoft throw down cash for the branding/marketing it will take to make this thing work? how many generations of the device before it really catches on? |

| Forget Wi-Fi: Zune itself is worthless
Hmmm, an "mp3" player that wraps everything that you transfer to it in DRM, worthless Wi-Fi that doesn't do the things Wi-Fi is expected to be able to do. I think I'll stick with my Zen Vision M.

I'll agree with you there. I'm sure there's some hackers already at work and will have WiFi hacked by the end of the day. Remember how quickly hackers turned an X-Box into a cheap PC? |

They had such an opputunity to do something different here.
Wifi, bluetooth, Sat Radio intergration, FM...but all they did was make "another" MP3 player cause someone was pissed off at apple.

You are almost correct, the first two generations of iPods used a Firewire cable to transfer the data/music, it was not until the third generation that Apple went with the Dock connector. No trying to bust your balls, just pointing out that Apple also did not maintain backwards compatibility. -- Have fun, enjoy. |

I think that in a hurry to beat the holiday rush they cut back on a couple things. I have a feeling that once some kinks are ironed out, they'll enable synching via wireless. |

Well look for the other stuff you want in updated modals. You can't give everyone everything at once or they won't buy a new version in the future. It works for Apple look for M$ to do the same. |
