| sbc had this a while
just an FYI sbc has been advertising 'blueroom.sbc.com' for like a year (not that it makes this 'new ATT' one better or worse, or even the same, i've no experience with the service). that's all... -- illegal wars, prisoners with no trials, and state controlled media. welcome to the land of the free! |

| Imagine how net neutrality will interact with blue room?
This is the perfect example of why net neutrality has to remain intact. Blue room will grow and with netneutrality, are you going to pay a nickel to search on google or search on blue room for free? Are you going to pay a nickel for ebay or use blue room for free? What ever your favorite site is, are you going to pay for it or use the crappy AT&T knock off for free?
THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF AT&T TAKING OVER INTERNET CONTENT.!!!! And this is not good for anyone except for AT&T. |

| blueroom looks about the same to me... bunch of music, live concerts, archives...
it's not a search engine...
still, agree that neutrality should remain in effect. one should be able to stream their content, or yahoo's, or some underground band, or all of 'em at once if you have the bandwidth... |

For whatever reason, this reminds me of about 3 of the last 6 versions of the comcast.net home page.
Do all large corporations hire the same web design firm, or do they all just hire designers who have resumes that indicated they've worked for other large, dumb pipes?

personally, I'd prefer the 'dumb pipe' and have a choice on where I can get whatever content I want. When the blueroom starts promoting the Tom Leykis show online (»www.blowmeuptom.com) then I'll think they aren't so restrictive. I'll stick with DSL-Extreme, and get my content directly. |

It hasn't happened yet... but it'll make the Internet into another AOL... you will be owned. Your content will be logged, as only access will be through proxied connections, and any app to the Internet other than http will be banned as it may cause legal issues. All email MUST go through their smtp relays, and will be screened/filtered for Spam (with exception of spam that they pay off to AT&T). Free/open Internet is going away. |

"The biggest fear among executives at the nations incumbent providers is being just dumb-pipe providers, who only provide bandwidth"
Yes that's what we want you to be and nothing else. And the customer is ALWAYS right. Things would be so much simpler if dumb pipe providers wouldn't be so dumb about their place in this arena. |

| Hmmm... Blue Room is airline jargon for the toilet. Got it's name from the disinfectant/deodorant that is used to keep the smell down. Turns the water and waste that circulates in the tank blue and has that distinctive smell. Guess there were no airplane folks on the marketing team. |

said by en102 :personally, I'd prefer the 'dumb pipe' and have a choice on where I can get whatever content I want. But, you can choose. Nobody is forcing any of AT&Ts customer to only use the blue room, or to use it as well. You can go to DSL-Extreme, or any other ISP, but it has nothing to do with what content you can choose. |

I'm glad someone else recognizes how serious this is. I think your accurate that it will be like aol.com. And there will be no recourse because as consumers, your only choice is an ILEC.
I still don't understand why more people are not taking note of this. |
