| Google buys YouTube.com vs. Yahoo bought Broadcast.com Yahoo wasted $5.7B for Broadcast.com back in '99 when the tech was new and made Cuban filthy rich, but it did nothing for Yahoo years later...LOL!
Now, Google pays $1.65B in stocks for YouTube... what a deal! A drop in the bucket for Google. The stock already jumped up more than the purchase price since the rumor surfaced.
Cuban must be envious that he missed out this time round...

1 edit | Re: Google buys YouTube.com vs. Yahoo bought Broadcast.com You are indeed Wise. Goog add almost $6B to their market cap on this purchased. So, $1.65B is a bargain. Next week earning announcement will perhaps add another $6B??
Yahoo used to be side by side with Goog but now they are in Goog rear view mirror.

1 edit | This is very in tune with the spirit of google Google seems to be very much into freedom of information. Copyright holders naturally hate this and this will likely start a second round of right holders vs. Google.
Does anybody remember when Google was being blasted for scanning books and making their content searchable though they never hosted fully retrievable copies of media?
Youtube has been in a similar hotseat where studios have been in arms over their content being posted in the creations of Youtube subscribers.
Unfortunately, books.google.com slipped under the radar and out of mainstream use. Let's hope the same doesn't happen to this service as well.
But then again, how many people check out more books than videos in a given month?

1 edit | YuoTube has been actively getting the rights to music and videos just in the last few days. Not to mention - sine YT has so much traffic they are a good fit for a company that makes money from advertising...
The more licensing YT gets - they lower the chance to be sued...
