All about competition

All the Universities now are planning on complete wireless. Even those that werent thinking about it a year ago are thinking about it now, due to competition from other schools with full wireless coverage.

At Salisbury University in Maryland, we plan to have the entire campus covered within the next year. We have had students come to us asking "is your campus covered completly with wireless?". Seems thats the big push now for Universities.

Makes sense to me

Laptops all over the place and wireless cheaper than running physical lines all over the place. Seems like a no brainier to me.

UAA and UAF in Alaska are both wirefree

Universities of Alaska, (Fairbanks and Anchorage campuses) are wireless all over the campus. The Anchorage campus is a little more impressive as the campus is a lot more spread out (covers about 9 sq mi. vs UAFs 5 sq. mi).

And it took universities, the peoples largely responsible for spawning youth into adulthood, how long to find that brain cell? lmao

Makes ya wonder sometimes !!!

I never understood the term "competition" in such a setting.

I believe that the situation is much better here in Canada

Bout time.....

How long before some campus has streaming classes? I think that would be a cool idea - you're sick, or just plain hung over, open the laptop, log into the class feed, and get your lecture. Problem with that is no one would show up for class anymore. LOL!

That's how it works now with American Intercontinental University's online instruction. Live voice feed, real-time monitor sharing with the professor, chat window, everything available via archive for later viewing.

Just making wireless available is quite easy. The hard part is doing so in a secure (from the college's standpoint) and consistent manner.

Misleading caption

The 36% are not completely wireless. The intended meaning is that they have full wireless coverage, not that they're ripped out the wires and have no networking other than wireless. They still have wires, but now have full wireless in addition.

stupid

802.11* solutions are bound to fail, you need alot of real wired ethernet ports available, by the time all the Skype and online gamers are done with eating bandwidth, p2p slaughters whatever is left over. Ever seen a 2 AP, 3 channels each, 11B APs for a cafeteria goto 30kbitps down according to speakeasy?

Re: stupid

actually it works nicely. My school is 80 % wireless with 20% to be added by end of the year. I never had a problem connecting to the wireless network while in class or around the campus.
