Bandwidth Caps

The cable cos will now be ones to start enforcing the bandwidth caps since some peoples will use the XBOX instead of the cable cos ppv. Also, I can see Micro$oft gaining more moola on this as we will now have to buy the larger hard drive for the XBOX 360.

High speed is dangerous. Too many MP3s, not enough time.

Yeah, if you like pixelated garbage.. I doubt it will offer 1080i content...

They don't even bother to mention the quality in the news release which means that it will be junk and overpriced.

Yeah, this is all good, but...

...$2.00 per TV show?
Uhm... DVR? VCR?

$4.00 for a movie?
Can you say Netflix boys and girls?
Most "Walk-In" rentals are ~$1.00 per movie, right?

For some reason, this MS - Xbox deal doesn't sound all that appealing to me, ya know?

I buy a console for gaming not for PPV

I am going with the Nintendo Wii this time around. I want my console to play games and that primarily I have other things like a DVR and what not that is used for these sorts of things. I think it is kinda sad that consoles are becoming more concerned about the add on fluff than the games anymore. This and the nickle and dimeing policy that EA is tossing at the gamers with the un-lockable content for a fee. Come on people play the game to get the goodies that is why you bought it in the first place.

Next Gen As a Media Center

I had mostly ignored the next-gen consoles up until last week. I was over at a friend's place and he showed me some of the things he likes about his 360. He plays his stuff on a 17" LCD that he also uses with his computer, and runs it at 1280*1024. He can run games at that resolution - he showed me Call of Duty 2, something that I played at 640*480 on my computer (and it was still choppy).

He can download trailers and game demos and they're fairly quick to download. We're talking trailers in the hundreds of megabytes and demos that are I-don't-know-how-big. In any case, it's impressive and I'm sure it requires serious bandwidth. My family has DirecTV right now and we buy movies all the time. I'm sure that if we could purchase movies through our console they'd consider that too. It would also be nice to ditch our TV service since we hardly use it for anything besides movies.

At this point, I'm still holding out on a new console - we haven't bought one since the Nintendo 64 was cool and new. I don't have an HDTV and probably won't buy one for quite a while yet. But I'll definitely be watching the prices a bit now - a 360 might be worthy an investment even without being able to see the cool HD stuff once the price drops a bit.

LOL! That's funny. Bbuster should be called walletbuster since most stuff is $4 at least.

Some mom n pop movie places can be that cheap, but not many.

Dadkins is right about Netflix though. I'd have to see the quality first before deciding. Do you get to KEEP the show/movie - or is it a PPV type thing, where you see it once and that's it?

What are you getting ripped off paying for rentals?

Dude! I buy the original DVDs for $5.99 - $7.99. Rent it for $4.00+? I don't think so! LMAO!

Uhm Xbox is connected to the TV

Most peoples Xbox is connected to their TV. I can see buying iPod TV shows to watch on the go, but if you're going to watch it on a TV why don't you get a DVR if you want time shifting?

I can get $1 rentals at my Stop & Shop »www.redbox.com/

Re: Bandwidth Caps

I read standard definition will be the initial offering with select high definition programs at a higher price. Keep in mind 1080i is not much different in resolution from 720p. Actually they are almost identical.

I look at this service as not really competing with Netflix. It seems more like direct competition to PPV services from Comcast/DirecTV.

The larger hard drive would be nice, but the tv shows that are bought can be deleted and re-downloaded with your live account. Let them pay for the drive space.

Re: Next Gen As a Media Center

If you're going to wait anyway you might as well check out the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 as well, just to make sure you're getting the best of the latest console games for what your interests are.

What About the Games

I know gears of war comes out today I believe but I'm not sure that game alone can sway me to finally purchase a 360.

MORE GAMES WITH GOOD GAMEPLAY, less focus on frills.
