| Tried it....
Downloaded it. Tried it without using a key so I could see what the big deal is.
Just a really really shiny/polished OS without any major improvements (at the current time) that would make someone leave XP.
Maybe when we have software that can take advantage of the new OS it will be worth it, not now though. |

| final version will be on p2p soon
If this version got leaked,i am sure final final version will get leaked soon as it always happens. Regarding microsoft catching and disabling, it's same thing as with xp, those that know what they are doing can easily get around and those that got no clue get caught |

That's pretty sad when Microsoft's shiny new OS isn't even worth the effort to pirate... |

| Too many versions
Well the fact that they made the stupid move to create 7, yes seven! separate versions of the vista OS is the most boneheaded move they have made as a company in at least 4-5 years.
Hmmm which one do I want to buy?
Windows Vista Starter Windows Vista Home Basic Windows Vista Home Basic N Windows Vista Home Premium Windows Vista Business Windows Vista Business N Windows Vista Ultimate
DUH??? Hmmm... Do you play games? Can I even play a direct x 10 game on any of the starter or business versions?
It's just such a stupid move choosing the right product will be the frustration of many many pissed off customers. |

I installed the Vista Business edition and it was alright. It performs well and it acts a little bit slower than 2003 or XP on my machine.
The good part is that is is not nagging me about activation and it updates smoothly.
It's not exactly something I would eagerly go out and shell out many hundreds of dollars for right now |

Personally I don't see anything compelling enough to get me to migrate from XP. From Win98 to W2K was NT. From 2K to XP it was better game support. I'm just not seeing anything "great" in Vista; certainly not great enough to warrant the insanely high prices they're asking for it.
I've tried RC2 and to me Vista is to XP what Me was to 98...bloated not better. |

Those who like to be at the very top of everything and have the ultimate version will get - guess what "Vista Ultimate".
And large businesses will cut volume discount deals and roll out customized versions at a customized price.
And "Business N" is for Europe where the regulators are throwing a hissy fit over bundling.
And Vista Starter is for 3rd world countries that want to pay as little as possible and then steal the rest(E.G. China).
Not so hard, is it?

Just the same old stuff, just like allways, just stuffed with more fluff "features" that no one will use, but that they can claim are "new". The only reason they are offering this is so they can renew their revenue stream and gain control with WGA and DRM for their pals since, truth be told, there is NOTHING wrong with XP. It's just the standard marketing gimmick so they can say it's "new" legally. |

| Microsoft can goto hell...
Vista is slower, more bloated and a bigger pain in the ass than XP. The same system will run slower and use more RAM with Vista than it would with XP. There is little to no advantage of Vista, and it is not worth half of what they are going to sell it for. Back in the early builds of Longhorn they were heading in the right direction, then it was scrapped for this "filler" of an OS "Vista".
Microsoft can goto hell for choosing to not make DX10 for XP, what a damn scam to get more people to buy Vista.
Did they really need to use DX to add transparencies and shadows to the UI? Hell no, there are plenty of programs and hacked skins that do the same and more without DX.
*ATTENTION GAME DESIGNERS*... Cease all game development for windows, only compile your games for MacOSX and Linux. (if this happened I would be able to get rid of windows indefinitely).

If the OS is going to be more bloated then how can games run faster?

windows vista, whooop-de-do. i'm glad it's already out there. kudos to the "scene". one of my favorite pics is one of a burned cd-r of xp pro with "the" infamous key written on it, taken in front of microsoft's "xp countdown" clock.. with considerable time remaining before 'the big day'.
most people will need a new system to run it in its full glory (dell to microsoft: help us sell more pc's)
more restrictive drm (hollywood to microsoft: help us sell more content)
stupid new ui means corporate retraining worldwide for windows and especially office.
more restrictive retail windows license. (e.g. the single transfer or sale per license)
more built-in "marketing" for microsoft crap. more bundled microsoft crap. mandatory wga crap. nothing but pure, 100% "genuine" microsoft crap.
have you hugged a penguin lately? now is the PERFECT time to migrate to a different platform, whether it be linux, bsd, or even a mac. do it now, don't get sucked into another round of windows. |

Most of the improvements revolve around security and they are not immediately apparent to the casual user. They will be particularly helpful for those that are aware of security issues, but still choose to engage in risky activity, like surfing seeding websites. |

*sigh* you can't please people with facts so im just going to state the obvious you are stupid.
Vista is not bloated more than winxp. Why don't you just say what you want to say "I hate MS for putting DX10 in vista only cause I don't want to upgrade to play games with DX10". Boo who! |

fyi: The release has the build number 6000.16386.061101-2205.
The key supplied with the warez release is an older RC2-based key, but apparently the Windows setup will allow you to install without a key for a 30-day period. |

Then again, you don't need Vista to get a top of the line computer. It will take a much greater computer to achieve great performance out of Vista and enable all of it's features. |

vista = crap
to slow! I don't want a downgrade maybe if they let openGl take care of there desktop environment.
& Where all the RAM going??
linux XGL takes little cpu compare to vista 3D desktop when u move windows around like crazy cpu goes 100% xgl max it takes is 20% i install it my little bro PC A64 3200+ 1GB of ram 9700pro==(got a 5)on vista performance chart. ( not to mention it took 300MB of ram just when i was idle) I was trying to play back some (anime) in avi format it wasted 50% of cpu + i open a mpeg2 video @ same time and system start it to choke. this was with ATI WHQL driver. Maybe it was just A64 3200+ couldn't take it but i can tell u i played HD files before on that system and the avi file takes 15% with spikes on 20% on XP i think i even play some H264 with coreavc on it just fine if i remenber correctly.
