It will be like every other OS Micro$oft has spewed out before it is ready. Patch the patches to fix the failed patches and no customer support.

Also is it a new OS? Seems to me it is just a redo of XP. It may prove to be more secure but what are the odds with the past track record?

What's this?!?

"Windows Vista RTM Pirated
P2P version may have been leaked"

And I suppose my surprize should be absolute? The only way I would consider running Vista is the same way I run XP Pro - as a VM under Linux FC6...

Re: What's this?!?

I wish there could be a group effort to release a DX10 clone sublayer on Windows XP by someone other than Microsoft. If XP could get DX10 then Vista looses any logic it has of upgrading. Why upgrade to something slower and bulkier. OS systems should be designed to not tax your hardware.

I guess this can't legally be done though?

my thoughts on vista.

I guess I'm naive (and probably am)... but wouldn't MS sell more of their software if it was more reasonably priced? I really can't justify spending more on a O/S than the pc it's running on.

Since I'm a member of the MS action pack, I'm sure I'll get a copy of Vista. I played around with the beta's and they looked nice but I didn't see a appreciable difference in speed or "reliability".

I'll stick with XP for now as it suits my needs, in it's current form...reliable and paid for!

Cmon

Listen, I use XP every day for my desktop & laptop, and Linux on my server.

I like both OS's. XP is just easier to use for my tasks.

That being said, what is the benefit to upgrading to Vista? If past experience means anything, then I should at least wait until SP2.

Honestly, I just cannot justify the cost to do it. $400.00??

Sorry, that is just too much, and the idea of buying a trimmed down version isn't pleasant either. I remember what happened when I first bought the home edition of XP and realized I really needed the pro. I do not want that headache again.

I know MS laughs at the idea of open source OS's like Linux, but they seem to do everything they can to make it more appealing.

Hopeful, as usual with MSFT, but...

I reinstall XP Pro every 4-5 months, BUT I am a very heavy user.
Personal experience on my dual Xeon Machines with SCSI drives always was very average when using many heavy-duty pro programs requiring lots of RAM and fastest data transfers.
Blue screens still pop with KVM switches due to primarily video card driver issues and other "known" incompatabilities.
This still continues with Betas and RCs of Vista unabated.
Will wait for MSDN post, hope most errors are gone since RC2.
But am I excited? No!!!

vista over xp

Vista is just a pretty version of xp which has more digital rights management and has one more step to take before malware screws up your computer.
