Yes, just a little. But then again, we've never screwed up in Iraq, wonder why be paranoid...
The insurgents/militants/bad guys already use existing forms of telecom for that purpose, such as cell and satellite phones, 2-way radios, etc., etc.
Now should we send some of those crank-powered $100 laptops too as the Iraqis don't get much electrical power. |

This is great for Iraq, but.. the only problem I see is that do they have reliable electricity? I've heard from a friend of mine who works as a contractor over there, that after the US military took over the country, the electricity infrastructure was bombed to hell for the most part and some places have it for like a few hours a day, some don't have it at all.
Who's going to be using all that Wimax if there is no juice?

| From what I understand, some of the electrical problems in Iraq stem from an increase in demand. So many more "gadgets" like washing machines and computers are available now than in Saddam's time that capacity can't keep up.
I would imagine they would have some sort of power back up system at the cell sites...

Getting communications to the people of Iraq has been a problem since the US took over. People have been completely unable to contact police, hospitals, etc. This wimax is part of trying to get these people connected. It's not the solution, it's part of it. It can be used for both good and bad. Isolation, IMO, is part of the problem these people are having. |

I have also heard that the electrical transport infrastructure is fine but like you said there is not enough power (power plants). All infrastructure will have to be completed before we leave, for the Iraq people to defend and survive themselves.

well iraq has no internet infrastructure like the US... for us to upgrade to all the new wonderfull technologies, we have to RIP OUT the old ones first... big feat considering the broadband providers are in debt because of the old technologies.
Good for Iraq, but just as well, bring the troops home.
