This is a bad idea from the start. Lets get your troops home BEFORE they start this. If this does start our troops need to be on more alert than ever before. Before you know it they will use Wimax to sniff out or troops. (I dont like that idea) | |

The insurgents/militants/bad guys already use existing forms of telecom for that purpose, such as cell and satellite phones, 2-way radios, etc., etc.
Now should we send some of those crank-powered $100 laptops too as the Iraqis don't get much electrical power. | |

Tallahassee, FL | Getting communications to the people of Iraq has been a problem since the US took over. People have been completely unable to contact police, hospitals, etc. This wimax is part of trying to get these people connected. It's not the solution, it's part of it. It can be used for both good and bad. Isolation, IMO, is part of the problem these people are having. | |

Imagine these people using encrypted e-mails to scheme large-scale suicide bombings. Quite frankly, its the only notable thing they'll do. The people who try to learn will be oppressed by these groups of destructive people.
A recent article in Macleans got me thinking... How are we suppose to convert (wo)men who were taught and encouraged violence and killing since childhood to be productive to the country's development?

| | What about the juice? This is great for Iraq, but.. the only problem I see is that do they have reliable electricity? I've heard from a friend of mine who works as a contractor over there, that after the US military took over the country, the electricity infrastructure was bombed to hell for the most part and some places have it for like a few hours a day, some don't have it at all.
Who's going to be using all that Wimax if there is no juice?

kudos:1 | Re: What about the juice? From what I understand, some of the electrical problems in Iraq stem from an increase in demand. So many more "gadgets" like washing machines and computers are available now than in Saddam's time that capacity can't keep up.
I would imagine they would have some sort of power back up system at the cell sites...

| | hmm well iraq has no internet infrastructure like the US... for us to upgrade to all the new wonderfull technologies, we have to RIP OUT the old ones first... big feat considering the broadband providers are in debt because of the old technologies.
