| Fair Comparison
I agree it is a fair comparison considering with Cingular the average user will only have EDGE available. It is Cingular's problem that they do not have a widely available solution and even hinting they do would be misleading.
It would also be a pointless commercial to compare Sprint vs Verizon EVDO. Look we have the same thing but Vz tos sucks. :/ |

| Funny! Go to Tallahassee (FL) and see how much LOVE Sprint has? Not much.
Near the tower I bet it is faster. I think Sprint needs to prove its claims by an independent (like Consumer Reports) b4 showing these ads.
Unless in a big/medium city, Sprint sucks from what I hear. |

I love my Sprint EVDO works great. But i also want to see what HSDPA can do but. I think will wait until its part of the so called All over network that was voted the worst for dropped calls. |

HSDPA/GSM has a much-much wider deployment - see Wiki: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed···ployment - already which most likely translates to cheaper future costs and these deployments supports 3.6Mb/s right out of the box. A lot of providers who started with 1-1.5Mb initial speed now are at 3.6Mb or are rolling out upgrades.
On the long run I don't think EV-DO has any chance technologically - but that doesn't mean VZ and Sprint won't stick with it for years to come, they have probably already invested too much to switch. |

I almost didnt get the Sprint EVDO service because of their misleading ads on tv and on the webpage.
This is like Comcast with their ads saying Cable BB is XX amount faster but they compare it to the slowest DSL tier. |

I just activated my HSDPA service, in a location where SPCS has 1x.
6 months ago, HSDPA was nowhere, today, it's spreading pretty rapidly. Outdated comparisons don't do anyone any good. Besides, EDGE is a far better to fall back on than 1x. I'd much rather have 200-220Kbps than struggle to get 144 when I'm not in a reasonably large city, but perhaps that's just me.
(BTW, even with awful signal strength HSDPA is still low latency and 600Kbps..I'm at -96dBm right now and browsing happily)
Edited to add: I forgot to mention no contract on my data plan..not that I couldn't spend a mere $30 a month, but I figured I'd give the $60/mo service a shot before going back to swapping sims between my phone and laptop. |
