In the short time I was with Sprint, I was not impressed. Although I don't like any cell phone company, Sprint/Nextel is by far one of the worst (at least in my area). |

Simple. Their customer service is the worst I've seen.
Shame, their service wasn't bad. But if I had a problem, I had trouble talking to anyone on the phone AND in one of their stores (long lines and not enough staff). |

| This is no surprise
This is no surprise. I'm one of those people who left Nextel due to that "worsening service quality". Calls constantly dropped, a walkie talkie feature that's neither walkie (don't move while you're using it) or Talkie (talk via direct connect? Only if you want your conversation interrupted).
Used to be everyone in the first responder business had a Nextel, now I know of people who paid the early cancellation fee to get out from under horrible service.
I have nothing against Nextel per se, but it's nice to see a company suffer for offering terrible service. Sprint is getting what the deserve for the service their iDen network provides..... -- Never ask what sort of a computer a guy drives. If he's a Mac user, he'll tell you. Anytime anyone is losing they're job is a bad situation, but Sprint is the culprit. In my own personal experience with the company, It was not poor service, just fee's.
I had outages last year but nothing significant, the contract terms are another story. If the figures are accurate on the loosing customers, and cutting jobs. Hopefully it will be a new era with the company. |

| Nextel brand customers drop; but not MVNO customers
»news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070109/ap_···_outlook
During the fourth quarter, Sprint added 742,000 net subscribers, ending the year with a customer base of 53.1 million. Those numbers include wholesale subscribers to other brands of cell phone service carried over the Sprint network such as Virgin Mobile.
The fourth quarter net additions included 876,000 from both wholesalers and affiliate companies that sell Sprint Nextel services, as well as 171,000 new customers for Boost, a wholly owned subsidiary geared toward younger consumers.
Offsetting the gains, however, was a net decline of 306,000 direct subscribers driven by a continuing exodus of Nextel subscribers amid frustration over worsening service quality. The Sprint brand subscriber base grew during the quarter, but not enough to offset the Nextel drop. So, Sprint actually added 742,000 subscribers, while at the same time reducing demand for customer service by outsourcing to MVNOs. That is how they can reduce their payroll. The stock will rebound once people realize that Sprint's bottom line will not be affected and will improve in 2007. -- -- My BLOG My Web Page |

I had Sprint due to my job providing the cell phone. The call quality and coverage was horrible. Sometimes I wouldn't receive my voice mails until the next day. I was always roaming in my house and I didn't live in a rural area. I was glad to go with VZW when I changed jobs.
Two years later I moved and decided to try Nextel since the majority of my friends in that area had Nextel. As soon as Sprint took over, the call quality started to go down the tubes. I was being reminded of my Sprint days.
When the contract was up on the Nextel plan, I immediately switched to VZW. At least here in the Northeast, I have found VZW to be the best overall as far as quality and coverage. Obviously they are not as inexpensive as some other providers but you sure do get what you pay for.
It is no wonder that the Nextel customers are bailing now that they are with Sprint.

Stockholders take note, this is undisputed proof that this was a BAD merger with FAILED execution. If you LOSE the customers you merged to get in the first place you fail to realize the value of the merger. I think a more telling statistic is not jsut how many Nextel customers up and left, but how many Sprint customers left because of adopting the backasswards policies of Nextel. And furthermore, how many Nextel customers switched to the "sprint side" and stayed. I'm guessing not many. Sprint is generating new customers on the "sprint side" from outside its merged customer base. THAT does not stop the bleeding. how can "network upgrades" to the nextel side fix the problems with iDEN is being PHASED OUT?
I think they are further hiding their shitty customer service in this loss. I'm sure Nextel customers got a taste of wonderful sprint CS and said screw this. As a 5 year sprint customer I knew this for years and finally gave up. Sprint doesn't even TRY to retain customers. If your contract is up they do NOTHING to get you to stay.
The ultimate question is who is getting NEXTEL customers? I'm placing bets on US Cellular first, followed by Cingular and then Verizon. No one appeals to chirping rednecks better than US Cellular. -- "WHEN THE LAUGH TRACK STARTS THEN THE FUN STARTS!" |

Just because they chose to sponsor Nascar doesn't make all their users rednecks.
Most of my colleagues that switched from Nextel went with Verizon, including myself.

that is a downward spiral. If you are pimping your network out to subs....and losing subscribers to your brand...that means your brand has failed. The only hope for that is to charge the subs more to make up for your loss in customer revenue. Then the subs raise their prices and piss off their customers....then everyone loses and the great stack of MVNO cards comes tumbling down. -- "WHEN THE LAUGH TRACK STARTS THEN THE FUN STARTS!" |

I'm a current Nextel subscriber and I've been very disappointed as of late. Dropped calls, calls not even going thru (redial), voice mail showing up a day late. All of this started when Sprint took over. I'd love to get out, but I just recently bought my daughter a new phone and placed her on our plan. Now I'm locked into 2 years not to mention shelling out $200+ for the phone. When my contact is up, I'll seriously reconsider switching. -- My definition of an expert in any field is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared. |

If those 5,000 jobs where from tech support and they actually added some people with have at least a clue what EV-DO is or how to apply packages correctly without erasing your entire voice package then I can only see this as a good thing.
But it seems Gary Forsee simply plans to drag this company down the drain and all it's promises be destroyed by him.
Thanks Gary, you are really showing your lack of what customer service is. |

said by N3OGH :BTW, I'm very satisfied with my Verizon Wireless service... Verizon's wireless service must be better than their local phone service. I've heard too many stories from family members about Verizon's local service that I don't want to even bother with their cell service, let along contributing more to what basically amounts to a monopoly of the telco industry.
Then again cell service just like broadband service is dependent on the area in which you live, not the actual carrier. It depends on how many towers you have in your area and how well spread out they are to provide service. If you live in the boondocks don't expect great coverage that is a no brainer.
My sister and dad both use Sprint/Nextel and live in the NOVA area. Their service is just fine. However I do get annoyed by the stupid walkie talkie feature. Why do I have to hear that you have an incoming message? |

as a long time sprint PCS customer, i can say i've had very few dropped calls, and little dealings with CS (didn't need them) as my plan i signed up for was about to expire i was notified that i could get an upgraded package and a new upgraded phone for free if i signed for another term. |

I left Boost Mobile last year (I'm one of their 4Q customer losses) mostly over poor text message delivery, but also for a change to their PTT charges. Now, even if you never use that feature, if someone chirps you it still costs the Boost recipient $1.00 a day. I was getting strangers PTTing me and running down my account.

| Dropping as well
I am dropping Nextel as well. I was with them for several years and liked them during that time. My brother was also with Nextel, but dropped them after Sprint took over due to call quality problems. At that same time as well, my co-worker was having the same dropped calls problems.
I wasn't experiencing the troubles that my brother or co-workers were having to their degree. However, I am going to switch to Verizon (the same service that my brother is currently on) as soon as I can. I got annoyed with them when I complained that my text messages from OTHER carriers were arriving at least 45 min to about a day later. I called up and eventually spoke to a supervisor who said it was the OTHER carriers fault. I was so pissed. I can understand that argument if it was just one carrier but more than one. Please.

I have no problems with my Verizon home service, either.
When I switched from Cable to DSL, I had some issues with the line ready date (date was pushed back 2 times, and then was ready early. Go figure).
I think a lot of it does depend on the area you're in. Some places it's spotty, and other places it's great... -- Never ask what sort of a computer a guy drives. If he's a Mac user, he'll tell you. If not, why embarrass him? -Tom Clancy |

| reply to Techman21 We've had Sprint service for about 5 years now and no complaints. The only place we don't get great service is our house, which is ok since we have landline at our house anyway. I've not had any issues with customer service or billing. In fact, after finding some deals and discounts online, I managed to reduce our bill by about $8/month and had no problem doing so. Overall, very pleased with our Sprint service here. We don't travel that much, though, so can't really judge the service outside the metropolitan East Coast.
