free text messages..

I'd be happy if they just gave me 7pm night calling and free text messages without having to renew my contract for another 1-2 years! Jeez... talk about a stingy company!

if a single device has bluetooth PAN it doesnt matter

in 2008, 2-4Mb will be passe. By then I expect to have a HSDPA phone with BT PAN that anything in the PAN can suck down speeds in excess of 2-4Mbps.

Not to mention that I highly doubt 2-4 meg will be considered "passe'", at the rate DSL, cable, and fiber deployment are gong, it'll be decades before we get what the urbanites have had for years.

$55 a month, huh? HMmm, that's $5 cheaper than EVDO..perhaps they'll offer Sero WiMAX for $45 a month?

Re: free text messages..

contracts with Sprint-Nextel are 2 years now. The old 1 years are no longer available. but you can get a 1 year if you have a free incoming plan and DO NOT change anything to the plan itself such as mobile to mobile or adding night and weekends at 7pm or 6pm and such.

Sign me up!

I currently have EDVO plus Comcast. I could live with those download speeds and dump Comcast for that price.

Please rollout quicker

I would die for this. Question is, will it reach rural? Right now I have to keep a wildblue at 69/month and verizon evdo at 59/month. Give me 256k with no latency, and 75% of the population would be fine. If you want 8 megs, pay 100$ for it.

Multiple devices...

I am liking the sound of multiple devices for $55/mo. That is one facet holding me back from Ev-DO. I wouldn't mind sharing it between family members a-la Vongo. With Vongo, I could use it on my computer, my parent's on their computer and my sister on her computer (Up to 3 devices) and only for $10/mo. which is about $3.33/per computer per month. I would not mind that type of setup for WiMax.

Re: Please rollout quicker

Sprint plans on focusing primarily on the big cities, sadly.

However! There is hope! Another company (I forget the name) is also planning on deploying WiMAX, but focusing primarily on rural areas (finally a company that realizes that persons living in the rural areas are not all "dumb hicks" and that a good number of us are, indeed, "techies" too!). Best of all Sprint and this other company plan on roaming on each other's network.

If this plan goes through, it looks like Sprint will succeed in the wireless broadband area, once again.

I think it's time to start a forum for crybabies, usually baby's who cry at least enjoy crying together. Then shut the door on that forum and it would be as if half of the world has been silenced at once.

Absolutely, this is the kind of BS I'm predficitng ever since these current WiMax-Sprint news are dominating.
HSDPA is already at 3.xMb in Europe - this "2-4Mb in 2008" is totally pathetic, clear sign of a loser.

I'm already able to use HSDPA via my TyTN's BT connection.

Not all people enjoy handing over their money to AT&T Kamm; not only that, but I think it'll be a long time before HSDPA has coverage that is as wide as EVDO (and, in the future WiMAX). Not to mention, I think it'll be a while before we see speeds like Europe.

Besides, if I recall,WiMAX will have much much lower latency than EVDO or HSDPA.

Why is it any better to hand it to Sprint?
You're not making sense...

not only that, but I think it'll be a long time before HSDPA has coverage that is as wide as EVDO
TMO will launch its coverage this year - I predict they will be on-pair with EVDO by the end of 2008.

(and, in the future WiMAX).
{i]Future[/i] WiMax has zero current coverage...

Not to mention, I think it'll be a while before we see speeds like Europe.
That's a problem, I agree but I hope things will change very soon, within a year.

Besides, if I recall,WiMAX will have much much lower latency than EVDO or HSDPA.
WiMax doesn't really have anything because it's a paperware at Sprint so far, a future product.

Simple, because I hate AT&T; they're a monopoly and, from many of the things I've read and seen, I'm not, at all, impressed with their service. Not to mention the fact that they're a virtual monopoly now.

TMO will launch its coverage this year - I predict they will be on-pair with EVDO by the end of 2008.
A lot can happen in 2 years; disasters, economic crashes, etc...EVDO plans on having the majority of it's network up by the 3rd quarter of this year.

Isn't HSDPA a software upgrade or am I confusing that with Flash-OFDM?

If so then they should have coverage much more sooner than later.
