is pretty damn good~
For anyone living downtown, or working long hours there, this'll be a pretty slick service |

We all know that these metrowifi projects simply CAN NOT work.
We have been hammered by the pundits in this industry for the past year with prophecys of gloom and doom for any WiFi project deployed in a metropolotian area.
This is a hoax right? I can't believe it could work. I mean everyone I know who knows anything has said it won't work... |

Once the commercial launch comes around, I seriously doubt you're going to get 5mb symmetrical for $29. Mesh networks have the same problem as cable, not enough backbone insertion. When you have 5 AP's sharing a single backhaul connection (which may also be part of another mesh network) and then maybe 20+ clients per AP, it doesn't take long before your backbone is all used up and it's crawling like dial up.
If they can truly manage to maintain a CIR of 5mbps to every client, I am going to convince my WISP to purchase that gear. |

I tried in from two different places. I had full bars but pages took forever to load. I was able to find open wifi networks though (both places, yay!) so I connected to those instead. -- See my Flickr page |

| said by nekote :But OneZone only has 6 square kilometers of service? Article states that they just purchased the posts, and that the service is going commercial in March. I would imagine they would be rolling out more around then. The current network covers the very dense downtown area, which makes sense for a starting point.
Fiber is cheap and abundant in Canada, so I imagine backbone wise it won't be a problem unless they're trying to make too large of a profit. Will be interesting to see how it turns out. I would imagine a cap would be put in place, either invisible or published, or alternatively bit torrent will be traffic shaped. |

Where were you exactly in the toronto network when your service wasn't good? And what was the other network you started using?
