| They had every right. Verizon had every right to turn it down. Apple is complaining that Universal I believe want's a piece of the IPod sales but here they turn around and want a piece of the cellphone fees.
As for having sole discretion over whether a phone would be repaired or replaced, that would undercut the insurance you buy for the phone which I am sure Verizon gets a piece.
I am sure in the end Verizon would of disabled most of the features on the phone, basically turning it into a $600 paperweight.

| Verizon's spin for losing this. The way I see this, Verizon is spinning some excuse to explain why it didn't get the Iphone.
For Apple, it makes sense to produce a GSM phone since it can be sold around the world. CDMA phones are used by a very small number of networks in the world.
Verizon and Sprint don't brag about the fact that they'll no longer be able to sell Nokia handsets since Nokia announced they wouldn't be producing CDMA handsets anymore.
In terms of Apple requiring the decision for repairs, it may be a good thing initially so that Apple engineers can see the type of defects that show up and fix the productionline to prevent those problems from occuring. I doubt this "rule" will last forever and apply everywhere. When they start to sell the Iphone in indonesia, I doubt they'll want the units returned to Apple for repair.

| Verizon Response . . . While we (at Verizon Wireless)won't comment on our competitors' strategies, we DO place a high value on our customers and provide what we believe to be the best possible overall wireless experience. If we had given ownership of our network and wireless product to another party, we would be unable to ensure that the products and experience are up to the Verizon standards and that is what we always strive for.

Its time for all real men to stand up and disown anything Apple.
