Comments on news posted 2007-02-01 09:11:58: The official BitTorrent video store should launch within weeks, after it took the company a while to sign the needed distribution deals. The company claims the service will be a "lifestyle product" (whatever that means), and the store will launch.. ..

Pay for this?

Here's a question, if I have to actually pay for content from this website, why the heck would i want to be uploading anything?

To reduce the cost of bandwidth they have to charge for the product!

They could also offer incentives such as upload X amount and receive a free copy of a movie or equiviliant. Reduced bandwidth costs (or little to none at all) means reduced prices on media

And when your account gets capped or terminated for "excessive" uploading will they help you resolve the situation?

@gmu.edu

No, of course not. That is a trade off. A Good torrent client let you cap anything from maximum uploaded, to maximum rate for uploading.

And not everyone has a max data ul/dl cap. I don't have that much of a high speed internet, but I can upload all day long and they won't say boo.

Pimple popper's warez v. video conferencing.

Net Neutrality demands that children downloading warez have the same priority as a company doing video conferencing.

And verizon cannot provide DSL here due to digital-loop, so by your suggestion I should go to dial-up?

Yep. What's the problem?

Do you also feel that black people should not be permitted in schools because they "may cause" conflicts in school?

You are right of course; we all should subsidise your porn downloads.

Peer Impact already gives users a system credit for uploading.

Lawyers are circling...

The real question is whether or not BT will have grounds to sue for interference with business practices. It's one thing when it's an open source, headless monster as many of the P2P apps started out, but it's another thing entirely to interfere with another company's right to transact business with their customers.

Should they have been throttling to begin with?

Should they have been throttling to begin with?

It was a network neutrality question a year ago.

They are trying to reduce their bandwidth costs at the expense of the ISP's bandwidth costs. I think they would lose in court claiming discrimination for blocking bittorent if the ISP blocks the whole protocol for all sites and not just specific ones. Of course, net neutrality could alter that equation if it ever passes. But personally I believe that an ISP can block a protocol and not a site and stay out of legal trouble.

The builders of the network are risking billions of share holder dollars. There is no way they will permit leaches to suck them dry. Pass laws that prevent network providers from making a sufficient return on investment and the investment will stop.

Define sufficient, and compare that to their earnings statements. All the more reason to go Muni. break-even is good enough.

Do you have previous posts tying him at ALL to racism? Otherwise, that most DEFINITELY comes off as YOU being racist, not him.

My opinion on net neutrality agrees with you, however.

Even if you are paying less that you are now... Good justification.

Which telco are you invested in?

Re: Pimple popper's warez v. video conferencing.

It was an analogy. Comparing two unrelated, yet similar things to prove a point. I don't think he is a racist at all, but the logic displayed by many here is inherently flawed. All too often do we hear bullshit comparisons that have no merit to the subject at hand. So I thought I'd try my hat at making a good comparison that is relevant.
