Stupid..

Whoever was behind this deserves to be fired. Do those leading Walmart really think this is going to work?

Re: Stupid..

Based on their customers demographics, etc, I would say a wholehearted "yes".

Have you seen the people that frequent walmart? It's a Dr. Phil/Geraldo freak show in there. Not to mention all they care about is low prices. Quality isn't even a word in their dictionary (limited that it is).

Walmart is why quality service and quality products no longer exist in this country. Smaller retailers can't compete with walmart and the stampede to get stuff as cheap as possible. Which is why everything is made in China for 2 cents and American-made is gone.

Can you tell I hate Walmart? I avoid that place like the plague (and that's what it is).

wasted money

I tried Amazon's unboxed service. I am sure it is quite similar to Walmart's. With Amazon you can download the movie to 2 computers and additionally a portable device.
I did not back up either computer or the huge file and both copies were lost. Graciously they allowed me to download it again, but it would not work, I gave up.
I will stick to Hollywood Video's 3 for $25 used DVD deal !

Craptastic!

Wow! Yes, I'd gladly spend up to $20 to download a lower quality, less features, and completely worthless version of a movie! NOT!

I mean come on... at least with a DVD I have the movie and it's case, and could trade it or sell it for a few bucks if I felt like it...

So you download 100 Wal-Mart movies onto your 400 GB hard-drive and it crashes.... think your insurance company will cut you a check for $2000.00 to cover your loss? LOL think again.

Impressive

While I agree with everyone the price is absurd I am impressed they got all six major studios. iTunes can't claim that can they?

New Release DVD's are $14.97

At WalMart already. No download times, no bullshit. Why would I waste my time to download a crippled movie to save $2?

It will cost me more in the long run, and won't work the same. All of these online media retailers don F'n get it. I'm using my time, my internet, my media, it should COST LESS then me driving to the store and buying it. If it is the same cost, or more, NOBODY will bite. If it only saves a little, NOBODY WILL BITE!!!

not in my lifetime

It's BS strong-arm DRM tactics like these that ENCOURAGE piracy. I have no problem paying for anything but if they want me to sacrifice quality and ease of use (and price) just to be able to download... I'll stick to blockbuster.

Piracy vs walmart

a) It's limited to two platforms. You need to change operating systems just to use it. However, as I have said previously, linux is for thieves, pirates, and terrorists, and no one worth catering to uses it, so who cares?

A) usenet downloading works on every platform. BSD, mac, windows 2000, windows xp - we've got something that works for you!

b) It's limited to one web browser.

B) You can browse an NZB site with lynx. You don't even need a web browser if you have bots that search nzb sites for you. Or you can just search group headers. It's all convenient.

c) It's limited to specific DVD players.

C) You can choose things that will work on portables, things that will work on DVD players, things that will work on neither but are of better quality.

d) It costs as much as the normal DVD.

D) $25/month, all you can eat!

e) It's lower quality than the DVD.

E) You can get lower quality than the DVD, equal quality to the DVD. With the advent of HDTV transport streams being posted as well as x264 encodes, you can get better than DVD quality.

f) DRM and copy protection.

F) No DRM or copy protection.

Gee. I wonder - I just can't understand why these services aren't taking off.

I pay for usenet. I pay for a computer. I pay for hard drives.

I have no problem paying for content. I have a problem with being fucked over, and that's why I'm never doing it the "legitimate" way until media companies stop fucking people over, giving them a cold pizza and telling them it's caviar.

umm

C) Normal people DO care, they care if the 'product' they purchased works in the DVD player they purchased.

F) you do not have a right to drm free music? What are CD's then?

YOU have every right to determine if you are getting fucked over. So do I. And I CHOOSE to ignore the law, because it just doesn't apply to me. I download what I want, when I want it, and I just don't care what YOU think.

a) Normal people care that it costs more money.

b) Normal people care that it won't work in their xbox or PS2, which I still believe over 50% of the DVD video watching population uses as their primary player.

How stupid

Who ever though of this and the person person who approved this should not be working in the corporate world. I bet they are making big money for thinking up something so dumb. Once again there are some in the corporate world who still don't know what customers want. Then they scratch there heads wondering why people use P2P and burn movies.

Re: How stupid

You know, so long as you can download to a portable hard drive as backup, and it'll work on a Zen Vision M, Plus no program to download in order to view these things...it's tempting.

All I want is to be able to transfer movies legally to my Zen for on the road watching....and I don't have many of them on my list, so this walmart service might be worth it.

Then again, I could just wait for it to air on CW11HD or something and tape it legally .

Stupid companies making it so DIFFICULT for me to just give them my money..and I WANT To, too..but I'll stick with DVD buying and TV Taping for now..

Not Really Tripping

I'm just not a WalMart hater so I can't be mad at the fact that they're doing what they do best......turn a profit!!! I'm all for the capitalistic society we live in and if one doesn't want to live by the sink or swim reality of the business world (and adapt accordingly) then get or stay with a regular 9-5!!! My only real quibble with WalMart is their handling of the illegal alien situation and the accomdations provided, but thats another story.

We are in the digital age and eventually DVD movies and landline telephones will take a backseat to municipal wireless internet and the services provided there in. Its the future and there's no stopping it. Just ask a cassette the next time you see a "new" one.

Wal-Mart is joking right???

Who would anybody want to pay $10 for something thats not DVD quality and doesn't even play in a conventional DVD player? You can buy a DVD movie at a Wal-Mart store for $5.00 I just can't see Wal-Mart making a dime out of this at all. Wal-Mart is waisting there time if they think they can get anything out of this.

The sheep will buy into it

Walmart is looking at ease factor. They don't care about quality since that takes up bandwidth. The sheep will buy this and say "wow" this is how dumbed down society is becoming.

It's shit like this that makes me scream. Sorry folks but this is stupid. People think walmart is "quality"

I think as walmart as other things such as slave labor in china (people need to stop demanding cheap shit) and other things, too.

One Day!

I would buy a dvd that wouldn't play on my dvd players, but at least their trying something nobody else is trying. One day, all this fighting to allow the customer to have easy access to the media will be over. I just hope it's before I die.
