Bill has many co-sponsors, so has a chance of going forward

Co-sponsors:

Text of bill:

This bill was referred to committee on Feb 9, 2007, so it isn't exactly NEW news. Bills move very slowly thru PA's legislature.

Didn't know the Amish used electricity. Maybe they are trying to spread their faith of weird clothes and beards.

Ahh yes. Lancaster. Smells like cow dung in many places. (Really.) Also home of Intercourse, PA. (Really!)

Gee. It's about an hour away from Philly, if that. But otherwise, it might as well be a different planet. (Good food found there though. Good food.)

If Lancaster wants to fight Verizon, I say, "Go for it!"

NO SHIT!!

The only consolation is that we're not quite as corrupt as New Jersey.

Yet....

In all seriousness, if it wasn't for the great friends I have here, and the fact that I've been in my home almost 30 years now, I would be gone.

The property taxes are RIDICULOUS, and Fast Eddie wants to raise the sales tax to 7%.

The whole Northeast in general is getting too expensive for the little guy to get by. I may find myself moving to Delaware or the Carolina's soon..

My sister lives on the lower eastern shore of MD, and loves it. But it's a broadband black hole....

There's a bunch of different levels of Amish..

We have a farmer's market near buy with a lot of Amish shops in it. They use most of the same modern conveniences the average American does....

NJ isn't corrupt compared to NY. Of course, NY isn't corrupt next to Louisiana!

Amen to that. I used to live in Lancaster City(still work there). World of difference. I think many would be surprised how many Amish folk are very modern. Not just the Mennonite.

With the 2.1 billion the State just handed to Verizon, I think that clause should be null and voided.

That's debateable. The now retired, Bud "show me the money" Shuster and Rick "man on dog action" Santorum. The former having been PA's very own version of Ted "Tubes/Road to Nowhere" Stevens and the latter residing in Virginia and sticking the Commonwealth taxpayers with the bill for the schooling of his 5 spawn, not including the fetus in the jar on the hearth.

I am torn on this one

I hated the Bill that installed anti-muni, but it did help our community get Verizon DSL with the BFRR (Bona fide retail request) part of it. Too bad we had to do all the work and give free advertising to get the 50 people to sign up in each of the 3 areas in my community to do it. No one was going to ever put up a Muni in southern Schuylkill county for us, I would be the only one who would even have close to the know how to do it here but wasn't going to take the risk. I don't see the bill dying any time soon with the support it received from the Governor.

Oh well, I have my DSL and hopefully Comcast will buy out our crappy mom and pop cable company so that we have somewhat of a competition here soon. Verizon has been forced to deploy DSL in many communities now across the state where they never intended on deploying before the Legislation.

Rick Santorum hasn't billed the Commonwealth School System more than any other resident of PA can. From your comment (as an example), you don't believe our residents serving in the military and living in some other State have the right to e-EDUCATE their children or Home-School them.

If your going to accuse the ex-Senator of something, get informed about the way the system works.

Re: I am torn on this one

McAlevy's Fort due to be deployed this year

Lake Wynonah CSA (customer service area) 3101 already deployed last year

Lake Wynonah CSAs 3102, 3103 scheduled for deployment by June 2007.

Other than that I know there are others but Verizon is pretty tight lipped about any area they are forced into deploying but there have been successes.

This is the link to the program from the PA DCED (Department of Community and Economic Development)

Here is a link to Verizon PA, there used to be a link for the ACT 183 legislation but it is now gone. The broadband map has been updated, nearly all of Schuylkill county now has DSL where 1 year ago we had next to nothing.

»www22.verizon.com/about/communit···dex.html

Anyone interested in using the legislation should contact the PA DCED to obtain more information.

Especially when all of the people in question have paid their taxes to Penna. the whole time.
