Christian Group Focuses on 'Wii Smut'

I think it is good that people are trying to inform non-tech savy parents about the possibility, but that's as far as it should go. Parents might know to watch their kids while online, but they might assume playing the Wii is safe from porn. Face it, some parents probably know little to nothing about game consoles.

If parents are concerned, just pull the network plug. ...but they would have to know about the possibility first.

I apologize for not reading carefully enough to see "the religion a bad rap" -- I meant nothing towards any particular religion; my point was intended as personal opinion/commentary on religion in general. I believe I'm allowed the right to express a general opinion without reproach. Isn't accepting diverse opinion that may contradict ones own -- even if the topic is a belief system -- called tolerance? For the record, I don't think any religion is a "bad thing"; it's people's twisting of it that usually leads to general mayhem. But again, I apologize if you're offended.

The Wii can be used to get porn. Children groups want to educate parents about this possibility. This is a good thing as parents do need to be aware of this possibility.
If they wanted to pass a law, try to start a boycott, or blame the Wii then that's a problem. But, if they just want to educate parents so that parents can do whatever it is they decide to do in response, then that's good.

It's great that they want to inform parents, but I think it goes a bit too far when the start exclaiming the Wii to be a "porn gateway" and the bane of society.
All next-generation consoles have network access capabilities and, fortunately, most have parental controls.
Yet, I don't see parental groups parading around for the PS3 or the 360 shouting, "Porn Gateway!!" "Porn Gateway!!"
Any device with network access today could be used as method of obtaining pornography.
I think these groups should be better informed themselves, before they start to try and inform the public.
It looks like the blind leading the dumb.

Well perhaps DSL report and Kotaku could do use a favor and name this Christian group. I have been both to the Christian Collation and Family Research Council websites and found absolutely nothing. The hysteria as for as I can see started by one blog entry referring to another blog which was picked by another. There plenty of nutcases inside and outside religion but a blog entry do not make a movement and a license to criticize an entire group of Christians.

I guess I am not being clear. This story is a complete fabrication created by cobbling together a few blog entries. If there is a Christian group behind this then name it! Perhaps by new the hysteria over Wii has spread to some more gullible Christian forums but I believe this rumor was not started by a Christian group but a single bloger and it got out of hand after than.
