Cablevision should buy Mediacom. Maybe then we would have cable in our neighborhood. |

This isn't new....we have had 30/5 for a couple months now.
It may not always be 30/5, but compared to what i see other companies offering - i'm happy with it.
I can't get DSL (also my 4th house where DSL is not available to me), FIOS isn't going to be at my house any time soon (industrial zoned, and only maybe 6 other houses on the whole road), so it's what im stuck with.
Just tested @ testmy.net (test id: O3CHR5I62) and got 3.2Mbps up. this is with bittorrent running, capped @ 100KB/up. Not bad. |

Uh, the capping post may be valid, but your posting of " »[OOL] OOL Boost performance decrease when connected to router. " is basically a thread about you posting nonsense and everyone exposing your baseless claim as bunk.
Most soho routers can't handle the speeds Boost offers. -- :: my trivial ramblings :: |

| Not new - but 'improved'
The "5" down isn't really new - since BOOST was announced that was the target "up to" speed. What's different is that most people seem to be getting more out of the upload - my 'normal' upload (outside the optonline.net domain) has seen a bump from 3 - 3.4 to 3.8 - 4.2 - it would seem that they've tweaked the network a bit.
Not earth shattering - but nice nonetheless. -- Q: When will it be done? A: When pigs fly ! If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled? |

| this is nothing new..
advertising what they already sell for the extra $10 isn't really worth mentioning..I think it's +$15 if unbundled. $29.95 + 10 $49.95 + 15
The $29.95 rate only applies to 6 months or 1 year depending upon whether you bundle with video or voice. I'll assume you get screwed after the year is up... to $49.95+boost fee which may get you a $5 or $10 discount if you bundle voice and /or video with the internet and their respective higher rates, which begs the question, after 1 year do you switch because your not saving all that much with cablevision?
** Why does it look good to investors in terms of NEW customer acquisition numbers at the lower rates rather than loyal customers at the lower rates? Is there some magic formula for writing off charges for advertising / promotion / favorable tax breaks that nets the company higher "growth"?
I'll take one final dig at cablevision before I move on to Verizon... Given the node fiasco's of the past.. can you really expect close to the 30/5 caps for the WHOLE YEAR round? Not likely.
Would be nice for Verizon to up the ante on their speeds though sometime THIS year.. their 20/5 is $49.95 less $5 when you bundle to overpriced voice, or their equipment/franchise gouged pricing video. Given their price structure Verizon rates are very similar to non-discounted cablevision rates.. on as much of an apples to cranapples comparison as you can get. One has VOIP & Node Sharing, the other variable taxes/fees/surcharges and less full featured calling plans/cableboxes, but relatively rock solid internet at the lower bundled rates, you pick your worms with your apple. Verizon has $95 bundle plan for 1 year too.. but will end up at around cablevision's un-discounted price when you factor in taxes/fees/franchise/additional cablebox/etc/etc.. the plan comes with the most basic of calling features as well.. Also its a 1 year contract with early termination fee (WHAT?!) |

So without dunking my head in a 100 page battle thread, is Boost capped or not? Last I'd read it wasn't? |

If your market doesn't have a good enough ROI for Mediacom to deploy in, I seriously doubt Cablevision would be of any help to you. |

said by tmc8080 :I'll take one final dig at cablevision before I move on to Verizon... Given the node fiasco's of the past.. can you really expect close to the 30/5 caps for the WHOLE YEAR round? Not likely. That's a very location dependent assumption, and in a large percentage of subscribers, inaccurate. I switched from DSL to OOL late in 2005, when they had announced 15/2 standard (even though it took 5 months to reach my location). From the day I installed, I got 'rated' speeds - first 10/1, then 15/2 when they rolled it out. Since I upgraded to BOOST, I've gotten consistent speeds with it. Proof: »/testhistory/115387/fd827
So, at least in my area, I consider it highly likely that I'll get BOOST speeds year-round. -- Q: When will it be done? A: When pigs fly ! If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled? |

I think it was 3 and there are MANY, MANY that reported full upload without any issue.

decadent Premium join:2002-04-02 Piscataway, NJ 1 edit | You are right. I forgot about that. I don't have Boost myself, just OOL. All this marketing makes you make a mistake like this. Of course, one can put website on non-standard port, but it is ugly. So, 128Kbps limit on port 80 is not so great. |
