Where have I heard this kind of thing before?

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."—Karl Marx, Critique of the Gotha Programme (1875)

"We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."—Hillary Clinton, San Francisco (2004)

Save

The way I see it.
This switchover isn't going to happen for another two years.
If you SAVE twenty five cents a day (that's 1.75 a week) for the next two years, you could buy four and a half converters (assuming that the converters actually sell for forty dollars). Voila, no need for an entitlement.
This saving strategy might also help one get out of debt, bad living conditions, etc.

My beer and cig money is currently being raked up hand over fist and stuffed into bombs that are then dropped over some country that is a world away.

GOP thinks everyone has a plasma HDTV

As Republicans say, f$%% the people who can't afford a plasma or high-def screen! If we don't give a crap about health care for the elderly, why do you think we care about a family whose primary breadwinner is making less than $10/hr. Halliburton needs to be paid!!! War = profits!!! Only $500 billion for Iraq, but the $50 billion being spent to send another man to the moon by 2015 will make Americans smile again. Weeeeeeeee!!!

I love how the company which is now literally running this country will now run it from Dubai.

Uh - so where's the conversion box?

All the talk about $40 coupons for each household to buy a converter box. But I have not seen any converter box for existing analog TV that cost $40. Hell, I don't even see the converter box on sale.

Maybe by 2009, the converter box magically appears?

missing the problem...

Everybody is missing the big problem with the analog cutoff: even if the converters were free (which they should be), it's not going to help the people that can get a watchable analog signal but not a decodable digital signal.

Re: missing the problem...

Doesn't more need to happen between now and then? Are all the broadcast channels also broadast in HD now? And what is the range? I can barely get anything over the air. Had to get cable soon as I moved in.

How many people

Will still be on antenna, not cable, and still have non HD TVs? Seems that everyone I know has cable.
And the old TVs will still work on the cable.

Hmmm redneck hillbilly states...

I can only guess who wants analog to stay....The States that populates most of the redneck/hillbillies that can't afford digital or HD....99.9% of them can't even afford to have analog as it is. They start service can't pay their bill...then the cable companies foot the bill on the customers by raising their prices....
