It's easy to get customers with promo pricing...just look at DSL sales over the last few quarters.
It's keeping them when Comcast jacks the rates to "normal" that will be the trick. -- There's only 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. |

| Smart consumers...
...know better than to put all your eggs in one basket. I know that these prices will only last for a year and then they jack you up to 120/130. In the long run, it won't be worth the short term savings. unless these companies are willing to entice us to use multiple services from them by making them significantly cheaper (without intro offers), then why bother? add in contracts and the pot is just sweetened with raw sewage? no thank you. |

| My definition of a "triple play"
DirecTV - Verizon FIOS - Vonage
So far, all I have is a double play . . .
I save $35.00 a month when I dropped Comcast CableTV. I saved $10.00 a month when I dropped Verizon phone for Vonage. I will save at least $15.00 a month when Verizon FIOS is offered in my area. Comcast charges me a $15.00 penalty because I don't subscribe to their TV service. -- Ö¿Ö The Rules of Spam | Maryland's Newest Anti-Spam Law Where are we going? And what's with the hand basket? |

Already have them for phone and DSL, and will jump on the fios tv bandwagon. Don't necessarily know if I'll go the triple play route for service, I may want more tv programming...but I'm happy to finally tell Comcast where to go once and for all... |

| reply to RideRed I agree - that's one of the main reasons I haven't been using Cable (Comcast now TimeWarner). Promo Price $24.99 or $29.99 then ~$45 after a year
I've had DSL, and its gone down every year (probably near the end of that). $39.95 --> $34.95 --> $29.95 --> $24.95
I on a pseudo triple play - only because it makes sense for me. at&t local, long distance (unlimited - same price as TW) at&t wireless (Cingular) DSL (DSL Extreme) DirecTv (at&t pushes Dish, but I like what I have, and their price is no better). |

That is very true if you are one who must have the latest and greatest. Those who just want the best price may or may not be better off with a contract, depending on what happens if the market falls out. One example, several folks here have lifetime cellphone contracts, I think it just went up to about $16 a month because of the change to digital, but the price is still about the same per month as it was 8 years ago. -- I am not lost, I find myself every time. |

With FIOS, I would have their TV and HSI. My cellphone has unlimited. One thing I don't want: contracts on HSI and TV. I can understand cell unless I buy the cellphone outright. I would have Cox Digital Phone but hurricanes prevent that. Bell stays up. Cox doesn't. |

DSLX - I'm surprized it works reading the reviews. Maybe the low price (crappy service) is why people b*tch about them constantly. Funny, until people gripe here about them, nothing gets fixed. |

Good Luck with Vonage after March 23rd. VZ wants them shut down.
If VZ wins, Vonage will only be able to allow Vonage people to talk to Vonage people.
I hope VZ wins. I would love to not see any Vonage commercials for awhile, er, years. LOL! |

| reply to supergirl The only issue that I've had with DSLX is SBC/at&t's lines... since I'm at ~12k' I'm only rated for 3Mbps/512kbps. Since I use it for work (from home - VPN/X-11/Remote Desktop, etc), I need something _really_ stable. I had the service capped at 2498kbps/512kbps, as at&t's lines would cause resets during the day. Latency is low, and the service is stable, and the price is good (same as at&t's, but without PPPoE, and the typical outsourced support). I _really_ doubt that at&t would allow me to request speed caps on my line, and do it within 1 business day! DSLX's bad side was when they attempted to play Internic and hijack 404 with a namefinder service on DNS. I would have found another ISP if they didn't remove it. |
