We have a Speakeasy T-1 at work. I recommended them because I've used them in the past for ADSL and SDSL lines. They have always been reliable and their technical staff is excellent.
However, this is a terrible move. Best Buy is the antithesis of support. I used to work for them, so I know. Say goodbye to the Speakeasy we knew, because I guarantee Best Buy will screw it up. |

@ Best Buy HQ: "Excellent. We have bought Speakeasy. What shall we do now?" "Sir, I was thinking we might leave them alone.." "Thats a great idea." "No! Thats not the way to monetize something!" "What do you propose then, silly little board minion?" "We flush water down their tubes!" "Excellent! Release the water!" |

That was my first thought too. I hope that they keep the Geek Squad away from any tech support for the user's sake. Geek Squad is just awful. I dont envy SpeakEasy customers. |

This is just a way to make quick cash by Best Buy. They are going to push this service down customer's throats, as if being asked to sign up for magazines I don't want at the checkout counter wasn't enough. |

That would be Speakeasy's reputation and credibility circling the bowl.
Personally, as long as www.speakeasy.net/speedtest remains intact, it won't break my heart. Of course, that's probably the first thing on BB's chopping block.
"This speed test service now requires a credit card to proceed. Each speed test is available for the low price of $5.99, or just $35.00 for a 5-pack of tests. You can also sign up for Rewards Points. Would you like a free trial subscription to Entertainment Weekly? Would you like to sign up for a Best Buy credit card? Have you considered an extended warranty on your speed test?..." -- Burrow owl...burrow owl... |

"Best Buy, like Speakeasy, is known for its high level of customer service"
They must have a politician working there! What a BS meter peak! Poor Speakeasy customers...you were sold out.
Geek Squad is a joke. BB customer service cares more about discussing WoW levels (no offense to WoW gamers here) then actually working. BB Geek Squad will open your new purchase, make you wait, and they will activate Nortons/McAfee prior to you leaving store because you know, it's your fault your PC doesn't work from that point on. BB pricing (see the internal website fiasco). Their management discriminates (see court cases pending) against age. Their loss-ratio from inside theft is higher than Home Depot . They expect the consumer to gladly funnel in their theme-park waiting line to get to a register (4 open out of 16...on a Saturday). ...rant on infinitum |

We had an SE SDSL connection at work for a couple years, on my recommendation. No complaints. We wanted faster and to mix in our phone service with them. SE was in the top 5 but Covads IAD solution won out. Now I'm very glad they did! Support and service aside, I just can't imagine having our primary business connectivity provided by...Best Buy. Wow. Shouldn't Best Buy be saving thier pennies for thier tough times ahead? Can't remember last time I purchased anything there. Still trying to to find something at a decent price to use Xmas gift cards on.
If I was a Speakeasy customer I'd be looking for a new provider. Speakeasy has been "over priced" over the years but it came with a liberal usage policy and at least decent CS. Doubt either one of those will continue for very long, prices wont be going down either.
I give it about 3 years or so, till assets are sold off at a bankruptcy sale. |

The Speakeasy we knew departed a while back. They always had someone on the Speakeasy forum here, but when Adam A left that ended. Their phone support is still good, but that will possibly be out sourced. Would be nice if they dropped the price of the DSL.

said by roc5955 :OMG! What a horrendous move! There goes Speakeasy, down the tubes! Not necessarily. The control of Speakeasy comes under the Best Buy for Business unit and not the consumer part of Best Buy. »news.moneycentral.msn.com/provid···=6670010 That Best Buy For Business ( »www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb/en/···BAboutUS )unit deals mostly with small businesses and undoubtedly that unit will try and use Speakeasy to market internet access to these small businesses that the Best Buy business unit deals with.
Of course, Speakeasy's dealings with small individual customers may suffer as a result of the new small business oriented emphasis. -- -- My BLOG My Web Page |

| This is a craptacular deal.
I was thinking this must be an April Fools joke, but the calendar says it is not April 1 yet. SIGH.
One of the things I appreciated was their local tech support. I can just imagine that one of the first things Best Buy will do is move support to India. |
