| As a residential customer who is about to move... As a very happy residential customer (until the email this morning) who has had Speakeasy for the last four years, and about to move closer into my city (in May), I am no longer going to sole source my DSL/VoIP to Speakeasy. I will seriously consider Covad (since Covad is already my CLEC). I might even consider Qwest or the local cable company. Did I really think that last sentence? I must go confess. | |

| I left Speakeasy just in time! I left Speakeasy a few months ago and switched to Verizon. Speakeasy cost twice as much, synced at a slower speed, and had frequent loss of sync.
I know Verizon is just a junky consumer grade service, but Speakeasy had become pretty much the same, and now is definitely mass-market.
Why would Best Buy imagine that consumers would continue to pay Speakeasy prices for Verizon/ATT/Earthlink grade mass market connectivity?

| Covad resells thru speakeasy, keep your circuit Covad resells thru speakeasy, keep your circuit and just change your isp, all it would be is an change of ip. Contact the manager of business development at covad and tell him you want to switch. The ceo of speakeasy is having a meeting with the ceo of covad later today to discuss this move. Get your input in while it can still have an impact. | |

| Re: so long said by metrodust :Earthlink here i come. Seriously? Hmmm.
I wonder how long it will be before the quality and service of SE starts to drop? 6 months? 1 year? 18 months? Even if BB stores started pushing the service at every cash register right now, it would take a while before SE reps were overloaded, tech were overloaded, and the pipes were saturated (ala SBC/ATT).
PREDICTIONS? -How long would you give SE customers before they need to find another internet access provider?
-At what point will SE be worse than the competition?

| Re: so long well yeah, at least with earthlink i can get adsl2+. i'm around 4000ft from the CO, so if they ever increase speed above 8mb i should be able to get up to 12mb (hopefully). ideally i'd just get a new circuit provisioned and drop speakeasy when the new one goes live. -- When you are leaving.. heaven is a distance not a place. --Carissas Weird | |

I have worked for Speazy for 3 years, not an old timer but many of them also still work here.
Yes, its a buy out. Yes, that could mean changes down the road.
Right now, **nothing changes** .. We are running our own shop. We are continuing to be headed towards being a small business provider. Which is how we've been headed for years already.
If that hasn't ruined your service yet, I see no reason for it to start. Quite the opposite, we will now have deeper pockets for better hardware and network upgrades.
Quit if you want, but don't make fear the reason.
Mindspring became Earthlink, if what I am being told is true, we're just getting a wallet and keep control. If anyone's ever been through a buyout before, these things take a few years to fully manifest. So as a customer since 98 as well as an employee since 04, I'd have to say keep your service if you want it, we're not changing, and quite possibly could be getting a whole lot better.

These things tend to start out ok for the few first months. Then something happens at the parent company that causes profits to fall and they start pushing short term goals on your newly acquired company.
Then you turn around and everything gone to hell.

I notice you're browsing from Cox. Please forgive me: I digress.
It is one thing for a person like me to deal with an 800 pound gorilla selling me stuff which they don't [convincingly pretend to] support. It is entirely different for someone like me to deal with a company that needs customers like me to survive.
Your relative value, in fractions of a percentage point of your employer's P&L, has just been squashed in a similar way. This will profoundly affect your work environment. I promise you this: things never stay the same (thermodynamics). Ask yourself if the surface on which you stand is slanted towards change for better or worse?

| The Intranet is for Scam? Hey, I knew about this the last time I walked in there to pick up a deal advertised on BestBuy.com, but wasn't available in-store. I wasn't aware it was ground-breaking though.
I saw a deal on some burnable media on the webpage, so I scooted from the PC down there...to see no sale price. I told them I saw it online for cheaper, to which they peddled me to one of their computers to "verify" that no sales were occurring. I then pulled out my Treo, punched in the webpage, and (albeit on a small screen) verified for *them* that the price was indeed much cheaper.
...to which they told me that BestBuy.com is a seperate entity, and although you can order and have it picked up at that very Best Buy, you can't get that price on your own. So...I just completed the order "online", and had them pick it up for me while I was in the store.
And here I thought it was just accepted retail shenanigans as usual, oh well. Man, I could've "broke" this story a year ago.

| Talk to My Mother quote: "Best Buy, like Speakeasy, is known for its high level of customer service," insists Speakeasy CEO Bruce Chatterley in an e-mail to customers.
Maybe Bruce Chatterly should talk to my mother. I dunno what Best Buy he's talking about but the Best Buy I know of made my mom wait half an hour in the return line because she wanted to return a defective microwave that she bought an extended warranty on. Then after a half an hour waiting in that line they referred her to the Geek Squad line. Now the reason why they referred here there is beyond me but regardless she waited another half an hour in the line.
Then after that the geek squad guy referred us to the appliance supervisor who said was in today (Sunday) but come to find out that he was on vacation. There was only one person there and she was given the authority to make the exchange.
The only microwave that was the exact same one as my mother has in stock was a returned, open box, item. So they had to order a new one and we are out a microwave until then.
What Best Buy are you talking about again Bruce Chatterly? Or better yet, what the heck have you been smoking and why are you not sharing? -- True Happiness Must Come From Within

| Everybody is Welcome at AceDSL! Not to dance on anybody's grave, but we've always been there for the refugees of:
- Red Connect (for those who remember) - Northpoint/Rythms bancruptcy fall-outs - Telocity
&, of course
- VCS (Verizon's Crappy Service)
The truth is, exodus from Speakeasy among their core user base started over a year ago. Some came to us. We'd like to have more
Not only does this apply to DSL (»www.acedsl.com), but to VoIP, as well (»www.acevoice.net).
Our business grade AcePBX (»www.acepbx.com) service beats the crap out of Covad's offering, which Speakeasey resells, if I'm not mistaken, and the same goes for residential VoIP.
Shameless plug? Absolutely! Good business, if you ask me.
Speaking of business, an inside tip for those who are interested - 1.2 times revenue is a sh!tty deal for a company of Speakeasy's size.

| | Whatever Dude
@comcast.net | I didn't know that Verizon offers QOS on the lines you resell? You have no control over the QOS throughout all you backbone and pops, because you don't own the pops. You are right this is a shameless plug.

A: You can switch from any ISP that works directly with Verizon, e.g. Verizon Online, AOL Broadband, Earthlink, and a number of small local providers. You cannot switch from ISP's, e.g Speakeasy, Megapath, that provide service through Covad or any other CLEC.
Whatever is right, ACE is just a verizon reseller. They don't own a pop or a backbone. With Voip as we all know, the trick with Voip is the QOS throughout the Backbone.
That is why they only operate in the states below.
MA MD NJ NY & CT PA
They are a Verizon East Reseller.
I do have to say this, it least I have now heard of you. Living on the west coast, you don't help me.

| Bah. Too many retail outlets are simply becoming too big, they're quickly becoming too controlling, governments SHOULD make a cap as to how much corporations can acquire within a specific amount of time.
Alot of nice companies that have generally good service and such, once bought out by corperations, it's a known habit, that said service WILL decline. (This based upon the principal that bigger companies don't specifically have to cater to specific single users' requests as their finances will not be lost to the extent of concern)
