I sooo wish I could get fios here. i'm in sbcland though, so it'll never happen, and project lightspeed is looking like garbage more and more every day.
That's why comcast makes so much money around here, they're the fastest you can get.

Nope, they will just turn up the bandwidth (Docsis 3.0). Its called COMPETITION!!! Now the cable companies actually have something to fight for, of course only in the areas that FIOS is being deployed. We need a state or federal broadband PLAN. |

I sort of remember people saying Verizon stopped "developing" new things for FIOS because the Investors were scared.
Guess they were wrong eh.
Verizon is on the right track.
They can keep pushing the envelope like this, and soon cable maybe hurting.

During one of my recent shifts I spied a Verizon tech working on one of those tan fiber boxes on the poles. Wanting to get a peak inside, I just had to stop. He was pretty cool, and took the time to explain a lot to me. I didn't get it when he said all future fios deployments would be GPON. I get it now.
Inside of the cabinet was neat-o. I didn't have my digital, so I couldn't take pics.

Let's face it though. Unless the server you're connecting to has the bandwidth to connect you at 20 meg, what's the point?
Sure, Fios is capable of so much more, but that's the beauty of FTTH. It offers the bandwidth for future, unanticipated needs. Even when you saturate the strand with today's laser technology, you can conduct future upgrades by changing the lasers on either end and using the same fiber cable.

Look at how expensive hosting and server costs were years ago. In due time, servers will be upgraded to handle the speed as it becomes more affordable.

To connect to multiple servers, if need be, without effecting perceived speed or latency. In other words, I could be screaming things down, from multiple sources, at 15mbps and still be able to play some Xbox live while I wait.. |

I think its currently a waste to upgrade to GPON, they are by NO MEANS currently pushing BPON to the limit to warrant a upgrade to GPON.
I think its a waste of money, that money their using to upgrade could be used for further their range to fios customers (more customers)
Hell they dont even have that many customers and they arent pushing this service like they should be to get it to the masses. |
