Glad I bought

Ok, so this $300+ one I have now is worthless?

Pass on the elephant

WHen MS decides to integrate the HD Player and go with the 65 nm chipset and go with Wireless then maybe they have somethging worth buying.
In summary: What a waste of time this is. IMHO of course.

overpriced...

180 bucks for a 120GB HDD is MS insane? and what if you already shelled out for a 360 with the 20GB

400+180 is getting dangerously close to a PS3

but then i guess thats ok becouse we wont see price cuts on the 20GB 360 now till sony cuts the PS3 which wont be for another year alest

and i so wanted a 360 this summer oh well

Re: Glad I bought

I wouldn't think so. It still works doesn't it? It might not have all the features of the Elite but that shouldn't mean you can't continue to enjoy it.

No 65nm CPU ?!?!

I was going to buy a 360 a few months ago then I heard about this system so I decided to wait. I'm disappointed because the Elite doesn't have the new 65nm chip that runs cooler! That was the main reason why I waited! Oh well I'll still wait one more month and buy the Elite because I'd prefer to have the HDMI connection for my HDTV.

I agree. The HDMI connection is exactly the reason why I will be buying the elite.

Won't be long

Before some one gets a 120 gig drive off the rack , dumps the firmware and makes an easy kit to make any of the ms used hard drives easily replaceable in the current 20 gig shell.

My question is has any one ever tried to store their content on an external usb hard drive ? Does it work ?

Re: overpriced...

But if you don't have one and was planning on getting one anyway (like myself) then its not 400 + 180. It's 399 + 81 right? It only sucks for those who already have the system. The 120 gig HD will cost them 180. But for those who don't have the system its only an extra 80 bucks for the larger HD and the HDMI.
Edit for price change.

Re: Glad I bought

Was it worthless when you bought it? You obviously didn't want those things when you bought it then, or at least perceived the value in not having them so nothing has changed. So if it wasn't worthless then, why would it be now?

Re: overpriced...

Gotcha. And I believe you are correct on that no price drop. I read somewhere that a price drop may happen around Christmas (of course this is just net talk) so who knows. But I was also disappointed in the fact that the new chip would not be present in this revision. And I doubt if a HD DVD will ever be included since reading how MS will not rule out a Blu-Ray DVD add on. Well maybe to get rid of any surplus HD drives if they become the betamax of today. lol

Re: Glad I bought

Not at all! You have to understand the flock of friends I have that were waiting for either a price drop or to buy mine! So really, I'll only pay difference of $180 for new one. Ofcourse, my friends will get the better deal (headset, 2nd controller, saved games, extended 2 years warranty..).

Now, to find one that ISN'T an ebay grab...

Why do ppl care about 65nm as long as the damn thing works?

Re: Pass on the elephant

Why have an embedded HD drive when no one knows if HD -BR will be choice? MS is rather cautious here and the USB route works quite well.

And last I priced, it was cheaper to buy the lower priced PS3 (BluRay) and 360 with external HD-DVD drive than to buy two separate BluRay/HD-DVD video players or a combination player.

No one has confirmed these do not have the 65nm chips, and they did say they run cooler.

You can add wifi if you need it. But one thing over the PS3, it includes HDMI AND Component out cables. This was lame of Sony not to include with the PS3, and I know as I have the 60GB model...what a rip.

Would run faster and cooler. And hopefully, quieter.

I'd think that most of the hardcore people who would actually buy the elite probably already have a Premium system.

From Xboxmediacenter.com...

The following file-systems are supported on Mass Storage devices in XBMC:

* FATX
* FAT12 (read-only)
* FAT16 (read-only)
o Including VFAT support for long file-names.
* FAT32 (read-only)

Everything I read says that FATX is limited to 4GB.

I can't wait till the PS3's terabyte drive comes to America.

Re: Pass on the elephant

It's a conservative business move but a bad strategic move as MS is one of the few major HD DVD backers. Their refusal to lean into the punch will only cause others to back away from HD DVD.

well I guess i'll still be waiting.

Assholes. Everyone was expecting a price drop and MS decides to play to the fan boys who will snatch up this overpriced TURD and they will of course call it a success.

Drop the price on the Premium SKUs you bastards.
