| who is pushing it?
The op ed did not really say who is doing the pot stirring, but implies that the city is thinking about it. Knowing most city governmental types, it takes outside money to get them to move on something like this.
Also, the op ed seems to full of BS "There are those who say Google has designs on wiring the entire country, and the critics say it's a despicable plan. They fear the power of a company that would have such control." What about the cablecos and telecos???? -- I am not lost, I find myself every time. |

2 edits | Victor Landa typical product of MSM today
I think his bio tells it all - "an accomplished story teller". The press and a especially a news director can't be expected to get the facts right, correct??

Victor Landa, Express-News contributing columnist and news director at KVDA-TV, Channel 60, is an accomplished story-teller whose South Texas roots still nourish his reflective concern for society today.

| Philadelphia Is Another Great Example
The city government for years has been talking about implementing free wi-fi in Philly. Millions of taxpayer dollars were spent researching it.
But instead of wi-fi, we have more murders in the city of brotherly love than anywhere else in the country. We should have spent the money on stopping crime. Go figure. -- There, their, and they're. To, too, and two. Look them up. It ain't rocket science! |

| City-Wide?
Just about anywhere I go in the city(for years now) I have been able to get connectivity. Coffee shops, hotels... BARS...
The City is just finally catching on that people like Wi-Fi. I've been saying it (here) for years... Wireless is where it's at! All I own is laptops. I can take my computer(s) with me and do - whatever... even when I go somewhere!
Wireless in the home is great too! Ya really don't want to know where I am as I type this! NO! I will not turn on the webcam!
I still need to go to the newly opened Hercules Library and connect... I want to fire off a speed test to see what they got there! LOL! -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

They also have thin client computers (35 of them) that share a single 1500/768.
The "clued-in" bring their laptops.

EDIT: Clarify -- A is A |

»www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0921299.html has Reading, PA as the 21st unsafest city in the US and no other PA city makes the top 25 (2005).
In 2004 »www.morganquitno.com/cit04r.pdf had Philadelphia as #22 in murders with 22 per 1000 people, the worse, Camden, NJ had 60.8 per 1000. -- I am not lost, I find myself every time. |

It's a fine example of the axiom that any project can be made twice as expensive and three times the duration if it's managed by a government bureaucracy. |

My source is CBS TV station 3 in Philly. They said on Saturday that at 105, Philadelphia leads the nation in the number of homicides. They also said that we are beating NYC and that is rare.
I never said "per capita", "safe or unsafe", nor did I say 2004 or 2005. I said "we have more murders in the city of brotherly love than anywhere else in the country" because I heard it on the local news this weekend. "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics", but I give you pure numbers from 2007. |

I went to a conference in which the leader of the SF wireless project stated that the main objective for the plan is to give underprivileged people the chance to access the internet. They also talked about how to give out cheaper laptops.
SF is working with Google and Earthlink on the project and it may be sometime before anything will happen as the city and the companies are still discussing the details.
It will happen eventually. |
