This is why qwest is failing

They are too late, they think a small portion of bandwith 10 - 15MBPS per user is good enough? C'mon they are pushing IPTV + internet to a customer and that's all they get?

Comcast 16MBPS +
Verizon 50MBPS +
Cox 10MBPS +

everyone around them who they are competing against is giving faster and faster speeds and now qwest is just getting around to upgrading.

I also though Cherry Picking was illegal or just a really stupid move by alienating your customers?

AT&T is pushing 6megs. At least Qwest is a little faster.

FTTW?

"It looks like the deployments will be very selective -- the telco pushing for "franchise reform" that will allow it to deploy FTTH only to a limited number of profitable neighborhoods."

Sheesh! Why not just call it FTTW? (Fiber To The Wealthy)

I have no problem with anyone targeting consumers with enough money to cover the cost of delivering the goods and or services. Sh!t, welfare recipients will be complaining the same thing for Lamborghini and Ferrari next.

And if you think you can do a better job, show me what you got. Seriously, its easy to b!tch about the other guy when no one is calling you on your abilities.

Six megs is the Internet access component. The VDSL sync rate is considerably higher than that.

That six, however, needs to double or triple.

If our nations power companies used the telcos redline business model, I'd have to power my Comcast cable modem with a Honda generator.

Yep, it all comes down to ROI. Its either that or BK. Those are the rules and Qwest doesn't get any exceptions and neither does Comcast or Cox Or at&t or Insight or Verizon etc....... If the neighborhood can pay than any of the above mentioned companies will come play.

LOL, I worked at a place once that built cable equipment. The only people there that had cable in their own homes? The janitors.

I think that Qwest is going to use FTTC,and VDSL in lower income areas.

Right, but regardless if the user is signing up for IPTV, they still get 6meg. It's not like they can use the "unused" bandwidth for their internet portion.

At least that's how I understand it.

Should they deploy to a dense area of people or to people that live a mile apart from each other.

If they deployed it to the poor neighborhoods first, they would run out of money long before even making it to the houses of people actually able to pay for it... or interested in it.

When will this stupid class warfare end?

Its a start

Ive been using their 7mb service for years now, initially had some problems with their DNS early on, but those have long been resolved. Very happy with the service, so they best step up and upgrade my neighborhood before I switch to Comcast.

Re: Qwest have no other choice but to cherry pick

Yea, all the 'cherrypicking' apoplexy around here is really getting old. Most everyone who uses that term with Qwest doesn't live in Qwest territory, so they really don't have a clue. I live in a city of 3500 people, and is the largest city for 75 miles. Should I expect to see FTTP here? Probably not in my lifetime! Hell, Verizon has territory to the north that has no FIOS plans, either. Is that 'cherrypicking', or just thoughtful deployment?

That's why cablecos and telcos are pushing for franchise reform. They can't afford to ubiquitously deploy the same technology to the whole market. Nor should they have to.
