Next up....

People want Broadband TV... I foresee the cable companies promoting such a product.

Once the analog channels get cut out in 2009, there should be allot more room for our current QAM based system to increase upload and download capacity.

Re: I hope

Price, service, and content is what it will break down to. People don't care if it's via Satellite, Cable, or IP, as long as it's price and content are competitive people will buy.

They answered the way they did because they think they will get the content for free that way instead of paying a satellite or cable company for TV service. Little do they know that the cable companies and telcos will jack up internet connection rates drastically if TV shows only come thru broadband connections.

Mark Cuban is a horse's ass...

said by Mark Cuban's ignorant statement :

Want to deliver the SuperBowl or American Idol in HD in realtime to 10s of millions of simultaneous viewers? Not in this lifetime without some breakthrough technology that hasn't been invented yet.
You have to love how Cuban makes such a statement about the impossibility of broadband video because of some missing breakthrough technology...

Hey Mark, next time you make a comment, perhaps you should make sure you check all the facts... You are starting to loose what little credibility you had.

The missing technology you are looking for is multicasting... Been around for years.

The mandate for the analog channels to be cut in 2009 only applies to over-the-air channels. A thread in here last week was about the FCC coming out against the idea of cable companies cutting the analog tier: »FCC Wants Cable To Carry Analog & Digital

I'm Playing the B.S. Card

I seriously doubt 53% of Americans know what broadband TV is, let alone how to use it.

I know that I shouldn't, but I personally find the following survey results more shocking scary:
55 percent say parents and individuals are responsible for making broadband technology safe
29 percent feel parents have primary responsibility to make Internet devices safe for kids

I've already done it

I download ALL my tv shows via torrents. Though I still pay for cable TV, I have every right to time/space/format shift my shows in any manner I see fit. I don't need to 'stream real time', but I do need to time shift. I don't need true HD content, for me, Divx is fine. The fact of the matter is that the technology exists TODAY to allow you to do 'broadband' TV. But the megacorps are too greedy/control freaks to recognize it.

That's not really broadband TV per se, but more so a model of downloading content. In my mind, broadband TV would entail me going to a site and "tuning" to a "channel" and content is immediately available and playing...or better yet, a STB connected to my network and my TV. Your scenario would be more akin to VOD, which would be a nice value-added feature for the IPTV craze.

It won't be once the same content is offered, logically.
