It's Their Right...

In their universe, entertainment is mandatory, must be purchased from them, and any time someone thinks of a new way to use one of their products (or the underlying media wears out), they are entitled to be paid over and over...

Re: Rrrrrrrrright

It'd be much better if they had a green leprechaun pushing DRM. Maybe then I'd buy into it!

No wait, on second thought I'd need Captain Crunch.

Captain Crunch could be second in line to Lucky the Leprechaun. We could get Snap, Crackle and Pop next to push this garbage

The world is flat!

Does the RIAA's Mitch Bainwol also believe the world is flat?

I tell you what....

if they want to "license" music that way.... I'll be asking them to provide me with a new CD every time one "wears out" or stops working.... because after all, they think we payed to listen to the music, not to "buy the media it's on".

Re: Rrrrrrrrright

Is it that they think were that stupid or is it that they are that stupid?

I am going with the latter.

They've gotten away with it for *how* long?

Clearly, they think the answer is "yes". Can't blame them for business as usual, but the folks that know better can certainly get a good laugh at it.

Maybe it's "pro-consumer" like a logo....

Maybe the RIAA is thinking songs are like Chanel bags--as in the bulk of the value to the consumer is to be able to wave it around and essentially shout, "I've got one and you don't!"

With that approach, the RIAA has missed my reason for acquiring music, but then I don't have white ear-buds, either.

trying to play Devil's Advocate, I can't even think of one reason why DRM is good or beneficial

I mean, it's not like they let you take your old Records/cassettes in to exchange straight up for CD's or DVD's, or whatever new media format comes out

At Macrovision we are willing to lead this industry effort.

Well of course you will. How kind of you to offer to lead the way and make boatloads of money in the process no doubt.

Same old song and dance.

I would like that cd and please hold the DRM.

If pressed they'd weakly argue that DRM helps keep music prices low, because without it there would be rampant piracy which would force them to charge more. Nevermind that it's a vicous cycle, the more they charge the more people will pirate, leading to a lower average price per song as more and more are obtained for free.

·WOW Internet and C..

It is true

DRM generates more consumers since you have to buy a new copy for each device that you want to use to play your media. That increases consumer value, also know as more consumers equals more money, to the companies with DRM protected content.
