Comments on news posted 2007-04-27 09:14:16: Wireless health scare stories are all the rage in the UK of late. A few weeks ago, we posted a report about a woman who painted her whole house black to avoid the "health hazards" of wireless communications. ..

Here
unwarranted fear...

GMO food, supply side economics, and now wi-fi.

There's a lot of things supposedly sensible people fear.

Radiation

quote:
Is Wi-Fi dangerous?
YES! Any device or system that emits radiation is hazardous to your health.
Then why the hell are they hosting a website on a webserver that emits radiation then expecting their "client base" to use computers to access their website???

EXACTLY! Totally agree with you.

Just about everything within this world is "dangerous" and will cause some sort of health problems. The air we breathe can cause health problems (pollution, etc), the additives in food can cause health problems (also food such as greasy hamburgers, deep fried food, etc, clogs your arteries and increases the chances of shortening your life)... I can go on and on. If someones going to make a big deal out of things like this, then create a website simply stating "living on earth causes health problems". Give it a rest and stop worrying about everything. Besides, worrying about WiFi "radiation" will cause you great amounts of stress, causing your hair to turn white and cutting your life in half .

we haven't evolved too much

We, as humans, haven't changed all that much. We are still ever since caveman days with that whole fire thing, scared of what we don't know or understand. When something happens that we don't understand or can't explain, we simply associate it with the worst possible scenario. It's happened for tens of thousands of years and it will continue to happen... long after we're all gone and someone happens to find this thread in a time capsule on a users' maxtor hard drive 100 years from now. Then it will probably be deemed that older technology probably shortened the users' life.

whew! Done ranting.

Edit: Interesting point of note. I just called The contact 800 number on their website and spoke to a "sue". She simply answered as "this is Sue". I retored back with "this is a sane human being, let's talk about Wifi" She proceeded to say that I will have a shortened life and I'm killing my neighbors. At that point, after her short rant, she hung up on me.

I think the conversation went well...

Re: Radiation

We need to put out that dangerous sun, too. It's radiation has been proven to cause cancer, and sometimes directly kills people too!

We must put an end to the sun. It causes too much skin cancer. Evidence also suggests that without the sun there would be no global warming.

Re: Crazy, Crazy, and Crazier

I don't see what the big deal is, radiation isn't bad for you. There are no studies linking radiation and cancer. Low/high power levels of radiation it's all the same. Just wondering wifi operates 2.4 GHz right? Doesn't the kitchen microwave operate at the same frequency? The only difference is power level dissipation. Also I am sure that the 2nd and 3rd harmonics don't cause any problems off of the original frequency. I can't see wifi being bad for you, it's only up to 30mW. The antenna is like only 12-24 inches away from your body when you use your laptop every days for years right.

I just wish these crazy people would stop with all this radiation crap. Maybe they should wrap themselves in tin foil.
