| If they can up speeds; does lack of FTTH matter?
If they can achieve the same result of vastly increased speeds without running fiber directly to each home, does anyone care? And if they can get these speeds at lower cost, Wall St and customers should both be happy. -- -- Internet News My BLOG My Web Page |

Wow, and how many FiOS subs are there out of the millions upon millions of BB customers?
FiOS isn't a cure-all for anything, especially for those outside Verizon's service area.
All this FiOS fanboyism reminds me of the pre-capped OOL days when everyone was comparing everything to OOL..."Well my OOL is 10Mb, uR teh suk". Sure, great if you can get OOL.
Great if you can get FiOS. |

A few years...likely to areas Comcast faces stiff competition first, everyone else later. Wonder if we'll be seeing the weekly Comcast is redlining news that we saw/see with FiOS. |

that's the thing that worries me. I'm sure Comcast will be harder than ever on bandwidth hogs as their backbone gets bogged down by all these new high bandwidth users... -- -Put this in your profile if you know someone who is fighting, has survived, or died from ninja attacks. |

Wireless network can also achieve the same speeds. But PR always avoids mentioning total throughput for the system. If there are 100 subs, what will be total throughput: 14.5Gbps? With increased amount of video streaming, they cannot hope that oversubscribing always work. |

They put these higher speeds in competitive markets first, and they don't kick people off in competitive markets because they will just go to the competitor. |

This can be a blow to justification to Fiber. Comcast will be able to do all the fiber has promised but with copper. Not to mention I live in a area with large apartment and condo complexes, the one FIOS keeps skipping. I see FIOS as the modern day OK Soda* , both are great products doom by lousy planning and expensive execution of the business plan.

Well Comcast has been confident that they will start rollout this year to certain areas (I am guessing areas with FIOS) and then having a very good portion of their network done in 2008...wasn't it 60% or something they were talking about? -- "While preceding your entrance with a grenade is a good tactic inQuake, it can lead to problems if attempted at work." -- C Hacking |

It's ok, it'll just allow people to hit the invisible download cap even faster. |

if they say 60% they probably really mean only 30% or 40% as most deployments there are usually hurdles and other things along the way that could affect it. -- Duct tape, saving lives since 1942. |

Great if you can get FiOS. Yea, and I won't mention about the caps that OOL started implementing either. Thats besides the point though.
I agree with what you are saying. I predict that a vast majority of comcast customers will be on 3.0 before FIOS is deployed nationally. Mainly because of the cost. -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |

I dont see why peple think more Bandwidth means more heavy downloading? Downloaders will download no matter what, it just takes them longer, were not going to get a new bread of downloaders roll in or anything just because of the increase of Bandwidth. More will get used though because of all the HD stuff now and other features coming out which our ISP are selling and expect the need for the increase to handle it. Our whole family are heavy online gamers, we watch HD shows and have never been told we use to much Bandwidth so I have nothing to sweat, the people that do reach "the cap" should get out of the house once in awhile. We use the Internet alot here so it's hard to imagin hitting "The cap" being I was told by my ISP I have nothing to worry about. |
