quote: By comparison, Verizon is spending some $23 billion on their FTTH FiOS deployments.
AT&T is just spending $1.4B MORE, not total. I wonder how much AT&T is spending total to deploy U-Verse. |

The article also says that AT&T will soon announce build plans for the Southeast (the former BellSouth territory)which will take it to MORE than 19 million homes by end of next year.
I see this as AT&T gaining more confidence in the U-verse service...and spending more as a result. |

said by ColorBASIC : I wonder how much AT&T is spending total to deploy U-Verse. well according to the article they are spending $6.5B, so a little less than 1/3 what Verizon is spending. In the end they will probably wish they had just finished the job and gone all the way to the curb... |

But nobody cares about HD, right? Just wait till those HD customers start cancelling service during the trial period when they figure out they can't record two HD shows at once like they used to with their cable service.
They need to re-think their strategy very soon. -- Laser eye surgery rocks! I love frickin' laser beams. |

Verizon has spent 20 Biilllion dollars (pinky raised to mouth) for less than 7 million homes past (not customers)...
They have plans to get to 18M homes past. That additional spending is incremental on top of 20B.

Hey, good to hear those $2 mystery charges are going to good use. Maybe they can ask the government for some tax breaks, then not share the subsidised network. Worked for Verizon! |

I see you've moved over to TW.... how are they working out? Also, were you in a former Comcast area, or TW area?
My DirecTv bill has been creeping up over the past year (2x $3/month hikes, and my service costs less than what a new customer would pay, but increases are increases.
Eventually, if they go high enough, I'll either go IPTV or TW.
I personally don't care about HD, as I don't have any HD TV's -- Canada = Hollywood North |

Don't be silly. They'll invent another fee to cover the extra $1 billion. |

The $6.5B is only through the end of next year. Certainly they will be deploying long past that. |

| Letsssss get ready to rumble!!
In the Blue corner we have Kid at&t. He is so tough he cannibalized his own mother. In the Red Corner we have Fast-as-Light Verizon. He too has been known to cannibalize a once mighty MCI when they became weak and soft.
Once they were loving siblings of Ma Bell now they are fighting for the crown of undisputed heavy weight champion of information.
This is a fight on the streets and in the allies of Los Angeles, no holds barred. Weapons of choice, for at&t, an old well tested hunk of metal, copper. Verizon's weapon glass, lighter and quicker but it cost Fast-as a bundle.
Two siblings enter, one will leave.
