We need more jails

Reminds me of the comic of two guys in a jail cell.

Con1: I'm in for robbery, assault and extortion. How about you?

Con2: Downloading songs off the Internet. But, um...really tough rap songs.

Which of the two should really be in prison?

Looks like Gonzales is trying to get the attention off of himself and onto something else, anything else.

As for the wiretaps, maybe they are trying to give AT&T a reason for allowing them to tap into their network.

I agree and there is one scheduled for November 2008. Get out and vote. Let these idiots know how you feel about them. Unfortunately we are pretty must stuck with most of them until then.

This is law that will most likely be selectively prosecuted. If I were running in an election against a congressman or senator that votes for this bill, I would spread FUD like no tomorrow.

Sinister Music and that guy that voices over movie previews:
Congressman Smith wants to puts your kids in jail for 10 to 20 years! For downloading music! Even just one soooong.

Voters are easy to manipulate, I need to think action forming an exploratory committee to run for office.

Criminal courts have a higher standard of evidence and trial by Jury. People on the jury should stand up and say that the people downloading would of gotten less time if they shoplifted what they where download from a store.

Happily....please point me in the direction of the major political party/candidates not owned by the media conglomerates. Oh wait, there aren't any.

Vote Libertarian, I guess. (of course that and shaking your fist at the sky while exclaiming "curse you copyright overlords!" will have just about the same result - Sweet FA - NADA - Zilch)

Ah...apathy.

who_knew

@verizon.net

meant so much to us

Who knew that intellectual property (other than the information to build the nuclear bombs) was a matter of national security???

I truly believe the nearly 3,000 people who died on 9/11/2001 would be rolling over in their graves to find out what The United States of America has become due to the perverted laws we have today. RIAA/MPAA be dammed!! It's the large corporations who have the most to lose if the terrorists win.. the poor people really don't care all that much and voted to stop the insanity.. but the two faced party system has a "one direction sign" and it's aimed at HIGHWAY TO HELL!

traitors or terrorists

You guys are all traitors or terrorists. Gonzo has the full support of the president and to even think about impeaching him is beyond blasphemy. Your are with US or against US.

The RIAA are the terrorists!

Maybe we should rename it the Department of Homeland Insecurity. Considering that the major members of the RIAA (mostly foreign BTW) want to take away Constitutional rights and freedoms from ordinary Americans they are terrorists!

How Amusing...

... yet somehow appropriate. I was listening to Tool - The Pot on the drive to work today. I'll refrain from posting the lyrics, but if you do a little creative Googling, you'll see where I'm going with this.

Yeah, they updated the Constitution somewhere between the DMCA and the Patriot Act...

Yeah, they updated the Constitution somewhere between the DMCA and the Patriot Act...That would be in late 2000, when the Supreme Court ruled that it had the power to appoint Presidents and select the most powerful man on earth--George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, respectively.

waste of tax dollars

honestly the whole war on piracy is a waste of my tax dollars, P2P piracy cannot be stopped and its money that would better be spent on NASA.

Re: catch me if you can

I can't believe this government a true fascist state.

Like so many keep saying illegal aliens, security and the problems with this country NEED to be fixed...screw that we can't steal money trying to do good things.

The statement of RIAA and homeland security almost knocked me down...that has to be the worst thing I have ever heard, then again when I read about aliens coming into this country and then as the FBI puts it fall off the radar...WTF is that..they come in here and do anything they want, but where is the FBI why we are now working for the RIAA tracking illegal mp3's.

THIS country is going to fall and fall hard in just a few years.

2012 and it will be a broke and decayed mess AND NO WAY TO FIX IT

@verizon.net

apease no one..satisfy [falsely] everyone

The BEST way to make something NOT WORK is put it into the department of HOMELAND SECURITY... A bunch of political appointees and cronies for the administration bureaucracy that are the laughing stock of the world's governments [with health benefits]! But wait, a few MPAA/RIAA affiliated companies are losing a few million dollars, break out the fbi, cia, and anti-terrorism task force, we really need to get to the bottom of this international piracy ring! Hahahaha... really.. DVD piracy sniffing dogs, etc. I poop on your idea that you wiretap MY internet! We've exported just about all the good, honest jobs.. the rest just prop up what's left of a corrupt government. How can people afford media without the jobs?

Perhaps we can use the law to ...

... see if any RIAA computers have screensavers or wallpaper on their PCs that are not public domain or specifically licensed images. Under the law, a copyright is created with the photo. If they're using any images without permission from the owner, they should forfeit their PCs and be subject to penalties like life imprisonment.

We should be able to have the ability to access their systems to verify that they're nor using any of BBR members' photos. Let's hope the law applies to protect the little guys against the big ones.

The law is poorly written and enforcement will be an expensive and problem-ridden process that won't solve the problem. Think about it. It's a no-brainer to get or make copies of music or movies in ways that no amount of sniffing or surveillance can detect.

But if they're going to pass it. let 'em write it to protect the little guys' copyrights too, and provide the little guys with the same support the RIAA gets.

I can sense a political cartoon here.

'A Guy in an FBI Bullet Proof Uniform. A Nerd that looks sort of like Bill Gates sitting in his chair in fear as a dog chews his mouse to shreds...'

'Shouldn't you be patroling our borders for Drugs or something?'

'Sorry, I work for the Record industry now. They pay better. Let me look at that cd...'
