Only works with their broadband service and their hotspots??

Better to pay another $10 and go with T-Mobile if indeed they will let you use any open WAP.

They indeed do. I do it all the time. Secure WAPs too, if you know the key.

MVNO?

I take it CinBell is a MVNO? They have nationwide GSM coverage, so I assume they use someone else's network.

I know they are using someone else's network. I want to say sprint but not 100% on them.

From a cell point of view, they are ok. Coverage is decent, no contract, and for extra $8-10 a phone you get all calls to a cincy phone(cell or landline) free.

I personally have a horrible time with their DSL and DSL support when I'm over the relatives house. TWC in the cincy area does a better job in the Cincy area in IMHO.

Thanks to the horrible time I've had with their DSL service I'll pass on this for now.

I thought they used AT&T for their cell service.... I had them at one point for cell phone service.

Luckily - my mom has their land line and DSL and has never had any issues....

Cincinnati Bell uses their own GSM network. It covers the Cincinnati and Dayton market areas. They operate in the Cincinnati PCS MTA (originally owned by AT&T). They also own spectrum in the F block.

They launched service in 1998. They have followed the same migration path as Cingular.

They are a scrappy local wireless carrier. They give the national guys fits because they are one of the few carriers left in teh country that does not require contracts to sign up for service.

This new service option is pretty cool. If I know how Bell operates, they launched this knowing that T-Mobile was geting close to launching it. So once they are confident in teh technology, they will probably open it up to other routers and hot spots.

They allow free calls from any wireless access point (whether on the Cincinnati Bell Network or Not) As of 6/15 you must currently be a ZoomTown (Cincinnati Bell's DSL) subscriber in order to add the UMA service to your cell phone. The $10 a month also includes free calls (using the cell or wifi network) to any Cincinnati Bell phone (both landline and cell)
