Comments on news posted 2007-06-25 10:10:41: It may be a little later than our leaked launch schedule indicated, but it looks like AT&T has launched its U-Verse IPTV & VDSL service in portions of Akron and Cleveland, Ohio. As with other markets, deployment is selective. ..

Guess he wasn't lying

At&t had a rep out walking around my neighborhood asking everyone if they were happy with their service and that they weren't spending more than $30/month for DSL. I asked him when U-Verse would be around here and he said about a year as they were deploying in Cleveland. I'm about an hour south of Cleveland, 30 minutes from Akron, so I guess it really is coming. I'm not too concerned though since I spend most of my time in Columbus but I see that is coming later this year. The download speeds aren't impressive, but that 1 mbps upload would be great to have.

I also noticed they are releasing it in all the nice suburbia areas, my wait might be longer!

I've seen at&t working on installs in both Toledo and Findlay. I'll be interested to know when they actually start to offer service to either one of those cities.

Compared to Comcast (in Atlanta) it is cheap. The similar-featured U200 to what I now have on Comcast (6MB down/384kb up and Digital TV w/DVR) is significantly less. On Comcast I pay about $130/month, on U-Verse it would be $89+taxes. Plus, the U-Verse system comes with the DVR that can record 4 channels simultaneously.

Same thing happened to me. The rep i talked to also said a year, so who knows lol. After i asked about it he said i seemed to know my stuff and he probably wouldnt be able to sell me much, although i already have dsl and dish network and basic phone.

on U-Verse it would be $89+taxes.
So in other words, it's $89 + $75

Not appealing

I live in the Lyndhurst area but I don't think I'll get VDSL. My current DSL is about as fast as that. And I don't watch TV so a bundle wouldn't make sense.

Could care less about TV

I could care less about TV, there is nothing good on it anyway. However, I would have liked to see higher internet speeds, alas they are still limited to 6Mbps. Oh well, at least they provide 1Mbps up for all tiers.

Great

Our friends (and some relatives of mine) just about 45 miles to the Northwest can now get U-Verse but hell, some of my neighbors up the street can't even get DSL yet and I can barely get 384kbps without having trouble!

Very nice. I admire how this company works.

Re: Expensive

It is ridiculous, I am about ready to give up on pay tv. There is just no way I will pay over $100 for internet and the 10 or so channels I watch. Rather just invest in 2 hdtv cards for PC and record and dnload the stuff I want to see.

HD lineup

though from what I've been reading, their service seems like it won't be that great, the selection of channels is somewhat compelling. HD is the future, whether it be full 1080 or mixed channels using ~20Mbps. I don't see any of the TV providers out there actively showing off their HD tech. It'd be nice to see channel line-up's from DTV and TW.

ATT in Akron?

I learned something new today, I always thought areas like Fairlawn and Kent were in Verizon service area and not ATT.

Once again, fumed that I am in an ex GTE area that has absolutely no plans for FIOS or anything of the likes.

Geesh...

Can you just get Internet service, but forget about their TV service? If that was the case, it looks like you could get 6 meg down and 1 meg up for about $30, which really isn't that bad.

Hopefully they'll increase their speeds in the future.
